| Post subject: | Carby Issues. |
So for the past few week or so i've been trying to sort out this stupid carby. One morning it decided it didnt want to idle. It'd idle at about 100rpm and mega rough and usually stall. It'd drive fine just wouldnt idle. Then randomly it idles at about 1500-2000rpm and pretty rough. and visa versa. I have looked around for vaccum leaks. Cant find any. I've done the idle jet clear trick, but hasn't worked. (Both backfire and a rag) It backfires under deceleration now. I've changed the fuel filter, cleaned the carby with carby cleaner and put another filter in between the fuel pump and carby. I'm out of ideas.. Anything else I should look at? |

On the side of the carb is a idle cutoff valve. This can become clogged. The valve has two wires running to it and has a hex head. It is a long cylinder. Remove it and give it a woop with carb cleaner and compressed air. The only way to be sure the idle jet is clear is pull the carb off. Seperate the bottom plate and blow compressed air through the circuit. |

Negatory! He has a lean problem, given away by the backfiring on deceleration. As losfer said check your fuel cut off solenoid for cleanliness as well as operation. Should be able to feel/hear it click when the ignition is on. If this is all good then its carb pull down time with the most likely issue being a partially blocked idle jet/emulsion tube. |

dont be too sure - when my choke went it'd backfire on deceleration and had the same symptoms as above. I was speaking from multiple experience. |

I changed my coolant to see if it would "reset" the choke. It seemed better on cold start up. The solenoid thing with the wires on it was working. It was still being stupid when warm, so I bought new fuel lines for it to see if it would fix it and because I thought it'd be a good idea anyway. Turns out i had the filter between the pump and carby a bit too close to the head and one of the ends had melted best part shut. I moved the filter, and cut off the melted bit, put new lines in and so far so good! |
