Post subject:  Tyre size?

Hi, What is the biggest width tyre I can put on a 5.5" rim? I want some 31'' muddy's but don't know what width to get.
At the moment they have 225x75x15's on them.
Thanks Guy's.

This is a topic worth researching, some of us like to stay with a narrower rim, my LJ is awesome on I run 30" mud tryres (650X16) on 16x6".

Does anyone know, what is the tallest narrow 15" tyre you can get??

With 16" you can go right up to a 750/16 which is 31" and will go on a 5.5" rim and some of the more agressive 750/16's are closer to 32"

Q78 15 will go on a 6" rim fine, that's 35.5" tall.

33 x 9.5R15 BFG AT
34 x 9.5-15 swampers
Q78-15 (35x9.5-15) swamper

These will fit on a 5.5 inch rim, but isnt legal and will eventually lead to some minor chafing in the bead area. I have run 30x 9.5R15 on standard rims with no problem at all.

The best I ever did was fit a 26x12-12 on a 4 inch rim. Now that was interesting

lately I ve been checking out a zook 4wd group page back home (where ppl dnt have the knowledge, or better said, they arent used to change rims or play with offsets ect)

most of the jimnys there run 30x10 tyres... few ppl on 31, and even a guy runing 32x11 all in the factory rims of jimnys 8O

I mention to the guy like WTF re u doing?? u should get a 15x7or 15x8, and while u re on it get some more offset...... he was like ... mmm whts offset?, naaah my rims re ok .... lol  :?

:helloo:

None of those tyres are legal on a suzuki axles sierra anyway, so it's a moot point.

I also have a 235/75r15 on my standard 5.5 rim, the tyre shop were hesitant and said it will mess with the bead eventually. They also told me the minimum wheel the 235 should go on is a 6" wheel and being on a 5.5 will also void the warrenty.

I'm not worried about it for now, they still go great! but im saving for some 15x7's still.

I would stick with the 225's on the stock rim...
Also, dont forget, the bigger the tyre you put on, the slower your zook will go !

Post subject:  Re: Tyre size?

would a 30 x 9.5 be okay on a 15 x 8 wheel?

if not would it be better on stock vit rims (15 x5.5) or on the 15 x 8s?

Post subject:  Re: Tyre size?

I wouldn't. A 10.5 on a 15x8 is a bitch to keep mud out of the beads.

IMHO neither is ideal, but I would run 5.5 before 8. You really want 6-7

I ran 30x9.5 on 5.5s for 12 months with no problem but I think 235s are awesome on 5.5s
