Hi guys, just after a bit of help on my build. I have a vitara swb with a g16a 8v carb motor. I also have a donor swb vitara with a g16a 16v efi motor. I was going to just do a motor swap (and change over anything else needed eg: fuel pump, wiring ect.) but the efi motor is a bit sad (blows lots of smoke). The question finally.... Lol - Can i swap the heads on these 2 motors or will i need to do pistons anyway? Im guessing going from 8v to 16v head, wouldn't be a straight head swap? |

need to do pistons between the g16a and B (needs the B pistons for the B head). |

Both blocks are stamped g16a. Has someone put a g16b head on this motor to make it 16v efi in the past you think? |

the g16a is notorious for cracking the block, and g16b have done it too... might just be a replacement block for the g16b and its internals? |

for the 800th time, G16b isnt an engine designation for a 16valve, we just didnt get them here in vits, some swifts were G16a 16valve (maybe only tbi?) along with Japan Vits |

all the g16b stamped blocks i've seen have had more webbing cast into the block than the g16a though... perhaps the g16a 16v motors were built in the crossover period between the manufacture of the newer blocks? edit: correction - this was bugging me so i searched into it further... G16A or B only determines if it was made in japan (g16a) or made overseas (g16b) - however there are differences in the g16b like the extra cast webbing, better crank and a few other things... so if you had the choice of one or the other the g16b is the better option. |

So from that my g16a is similiar to a g16b therefore i would need to get new pistons to put the head on my carb g16a? |

why not leave the carby one in the zuk so you can drive it while you rebuild the EFI one, then do a straight swap over? |

Yeah looks like that's what the plan would be. Was just trying to same some money. Thanks for your help guys. Any one know where i can get a rebuild kit for a 16v efi g16a |

Do a compression test before you do anything. G16B's are notorious for doing valve stem seals which will produce copious smoke. It would be a shame to pull down a "good" motor if the problem is stem seals. Steve. |

Oh true! Will have to have a look. Would be good if that was the case, because like i said before i'm trying to save on money. And i'll be able to get it in alot sooner if it is just the valve stem seals. Rebuild kits in aus seem to be rather pricey wat the |
