Has anyone had a go at adding lights to the Sierra dash so you can see it better at night? When I pull my 1.0L speedo cluster out and check the light locations I believe (correct me if im wrong) there is only a single bulb for the backlight (the rest are indicators, oil etc) Has anyone modded the cluster to include more lights? Possibly LED lights? If anyone is electrically minded could you let me know what you think of the below? 1- Solder wires onto the contacts where the clusters backlight bulb would usually 'screw in' 2- Run those wires to a bank of 2-4 LED lights with a inline Variable resister to adjust the 'brightness' (like modern cars have - to reduce fatigue and glare on long trips in the dark) Can anyone think of any other worthwhile mods to the cluster while i'm doing this? (I have put together a digital battery meter kit from jaycar and mounted to the side of cluster I was thinking about putting a blue light in the lower left corner to indicate when its correctly charged - or the opposite - when its low?) |

Actually if your after custom backings for your cluster talk to Reubs. Hes actually done alot of working getting the templates for all the Sierras and can even do you a custom gauge for different diff ratios/tyre sizes ... so your speedo isnt out etc |

Scorpydude, if you pull apart the guage cluster you'll notice the face has a very small gap around it where light is passed through and reflected off the white plastic surround and onto the guage face. I reckon if you cleaned up the white plastic, added a slightly higher wattage globe and got one of my face templates with a slightly larger gap around it there would be ample light. |
