Hi guys I'm looking at either installing a double din or single din in my 2006 Jimny. How do you pull the original out? Is it easy enough? Also for anyone who has done it I would be interested whether you recommend to find a 7" double din or install a single and put a pocket or plate across the gap? Do the double dins fit in nicely? Want one with Bluetooth. Any recommendations?

Take the ashtray out, undo the 2screws on the metal bracket above the ashtray, reach around and pull the wires of the back of the cigarette lighter, then gently start pulling the bottom of the center plastic bit put and keep making your way up. That should be about it, try not to loose the little yellow plastic clips that hold it on.

My 2008 was exactly as per Monkey's directions. A double din will fit in there easy, you just unscrew the bracket from around the stock stereo and it's fit right onto any sony/jvc, etc etc common stereo.

The hole in the facia is bigger then a double din stereo so you'll have a little gap all the way around your replacement double din. The gap is quite small, not even big enough to push your finger into. Looks allright if you fit a nice looking stereo, but supercheap will sell you a replacement facia without the gap for $250.

The wiring is Honda/Suzuki wiring, so if you don't want to chop it you can get a Honda/suzuki wiring adapter. The aerial is a male type plug.

I recommend a double din, if you don't want to replace the facia or mess around with tidying it up. If you are good with gluing, shaping plastics and don't mind the hassle of finding a cubby hole to fit under or above stereo and you don't mind a bit of messing around to fit the single din stereo cage then go single din. The extra space is always useful.

Internally Double dins are the same as Single dins, except the double dins useually have more RCA's on the back for amps when compared with an equivelant priced single din.

Great advice as always. Yeah I wanted to check as jb Hifi quoted 350 for the plastic surrounding. What a joke!

Ah yeah, i think it was JB that quoted me, not supercheap. If you buy your stereo/speakers from JB it'll be really easy to negotiate on the surround. It took me all of 5 seconds for me to get them to offer the facia at cost price. It costs them somewhere around $250 I saw their catalogue.

you wouldn't happen to have a catalogue number or code or anything for that, would you?

When I was looking around for one in 2010 for a new Jimny, the answer was always that noone made a fascia adapter for single or double din.

cheers
