Post subject:  stupid stock carby and kits??
ok, either im doing something wrong on this forum or there isnt any infor bout putting a kit through the stock carby, ive spent hours searching but cant really find anything, so im begging for some help here, i know very little bout carbys but ive been told i need to put a kit through mine, i was hoping someone would have made a tech thread about putting one through it so if anyone can give me any advice bout putting one through please do, i need my car back on the road before the holidays are over.... :)

Carby Removal

The removal of the Carby is quite straight forward.
-Remove the carby hat and pipe via the 10mm nut on the top, and the clamp. Take the hose off with the hat, this will allow a little more room.
-Disconnect the fuel line, this attaches to the front of the carby.
-Disconnect the two coolant hoses.
-Undo the for bolts and the carby will lift off.

hmmmm, that looks great, thanks for that, although now im thinking that a kit wont help it much, id really love to just get rid of it and put anything else on just cant afford to do much with it :(

I put a kit through mine and it did make a difference, much better throttle response and little better on fuel .
If you don't have much to spend it's worth it.

the kit itself does nothing, its only gaskets and a plunger

its the cleaning and checking and resetting everything that makes a difference, you wont see much info on it cause its complex and everyone stuffs it up :)

so maybe paying someone else to do it for me will save me from stuffing it up??? lol..

ive been told that possibly my problem is the secondarys getting stuck on, as i know nothing about it i took from the kit that it doesnt replace anything like that that it wouldnt help, maybe i will still do it and see how it goes.

Given the potential headaches of pulling the carby apart and trying to put it back together and get it tuned right, I would pay for a specialist to do it...

Cairns Dynotuning in have stoped rebuilding carbies, cause they're sick of people whinging(sic) about the $400.00+ cost.

I had one of mine done there 18mths ago, and it runs like a dream.

Sprints Carby Shop quoted me:

$30 to tune (air/fuel ratios, auto choke, idle speed etc) if I left it overnight with them so it was cold.

$400 for a full rebuild.

Hey man, I rebuilt mine not too long ago, first thing I ever did on a car and it wasn't too bad. Hard to tell as I had other issues, but I think the carby was better after the rebuild.

Just take lots of pics and bag and tag everything and you will be right.

This here helped me a lot, it is a 7 part youtube series on how to rebuild a asain carby, the model is slightly different, think it is out of a Toyota, but for the most part they are identical, really helpful :)

ive decided to do it myself, ive got the kit and i have the whole weekend to do it so im gonna take my time and give it a shot.

i will take heaps of pics was even thinking bout setting up the video camera to record what i do.

brilliant information thank you , the youtube link will definately help me rebuild the carby on my 1.3 sierra as it idles fine , sluggage up to 3000 rpm and then clears and goes well after this rpm , so i,m guessing it has a blocked jet !

definitely dont be afraid to pull the carby apart yourself, theyre not exactly piss easy but i wouldnt say it was hard and i know next to nothing about mechanics on cars.

after putting the kit through my carby tho i found the auto choke is cactus and thats where most of my problems lie, i'm planning on looking into converting it to a manual choke but not exactly sure this is possible but since cash is a problem it may be a viable solution for me, lol...

Well I dropped my car off last night for a $30 tune up...
Got a call on the way to work about 30min ago. The secondary diaphragm isn't working. So a $30 tune has turned into a $350 rebuild!

Would explain why it was such a slug, but not really happy about such a large unexpected bill!

that sux, i have no idea what those bits are, i know in mine the secondary was stuck open coz the auto choke has shit itself, well thats the assumption im coming to. for that kind of money id be looking for another carby, i hear the 4k corolla carbys arent too bad and almost a simple swap, then of course theres the webber, i dont know if there are any others.

I don't have the time, we are going away (in the Vitara) Thursday morning...
The factory one is fine for what I need it for, and buying a second hand one may just get me some more headaches which I don't need right now.

Just picked it up. Amazing the difference a working secondary makes! Has a random stutter every now and then, but will see how we go after the weekend, may just be everything settling in...
