i've recently purchased a transfer case with 6.5's in it, but havent installed it into a car yet... now, having a play with it, i cant get it to engage the front output at all. moving the stick from 2H to 4H does nothing, and it definitely engages low range no worries, but spinning the input or the rear output wont spin the front output. doesnt make any strange grinding noises as though somethings broken, any ideas as to what to look out for? i'm gonna pull it apart when i get a chance, but i have no idea what im looking at...

This happened to my mate Chris' suzuki. THe previous owner he brought the car off had put the stick in the wrong way and it wouldn't select 4Low. See if your sticks in the right way.

the bend in the stick should bend away from the input flange.

it definitely gets low range, spin the input 6 and a half times to one spin from the output... but i'll pull the stick out anyway and have a look.

It's possible that the detent ball has been removed for the 2L mod.

how would i be able to tell if thats the case? i had a play with the lever, removed it and slid the little lever things inside, still no front engagement. if it was a broken gear, i'd be able to hear some form of grinding from inside the case as im spinning it, right?

have made a little progress... i discovered that, when moving from 2H to 4H, where it clicks into place, if you pull it down a little further and hold it in place, it will engage 4wd, but as soon as you let go of it, front goes back to neutral.

I'd say the selector for the front shaft is worn out.
