Post subject:  What oil for lj50 engine

Hi i have just bought an 1976 suzuki carry van. That has the lj50 two stroke
engine and thought that there would be some here who own the lj50 4x4 that use the same engine.
I would like to know what oil peaple here use for there two stroke engines in the oil tank and also how
much oil they should use compared to fuel use hope that sounds right?

Thanks Jamie

If it is a 76 Carry it is an L60 and is a 446cc 2 cylinder 2 stroke.
A different engine to the 3 cyl LJ50.
This is my old one...

OK.. Yours must be the first of the "ST's". Lucky bugger!.
Yours has horizontal door handles yeah?

Castrol recommend CASTROL POWER 1 TTS RACING

2stroker or 3cyl would be the guys to ask.

Mine used to smell unreal running avgas and castor oil.

I use gulf western outboard motor oil on all my 2 strokes engines (including some vintage suzuki 2t bikes in the past)

Its about $25 for 4L and has a tcw3 rating, has burnt really clean in all the engines(including some dubious salvaged victas of the 50's/60's) In premix engines i even lean out the ratio a little (ie 50:1 recomened then i mix 75:1 with no signs of extra wear after years of use)

I had noted that most 2T oil that have the Japanese JASO FC rating have the american TCW-3 rating as well in motorcycle oils. i like to think that since the oil colour and consistancy appears the same in an outboard oil and a specialty motorbike oil of the same brand that its the same oil.

Either way if i'm right or wrong the point is moot as such an old suzuki engine like the LJ50 ran on the older smoky JaSO FB and most manufacturer manuals of that vintage even listed straigt 30W as an alternative. TCW-3 will be much better than FB (which is only $3 cheaper in gulf western brand at supercheap), is easier on the oil-injection system and will not leave a smoky haze in your wake.

If i score a 2t suzuki car its what i'll be using in it

ive done over 4,000kms in mine since purchase, not so many now the novelty has worn a little. I have found the motorbike 2 stroke a little to thin for my liking and the car doesnt run as well or start as well on it compared with some of the older style 2 strokes for boats and mowers.
may not be right but thats just my personal experience.

Some discussion on 2 stroke oils IN THIS THREAD

An LJ50 uses about 1 litre of oil per tankful (27lts). The oil tank is 2.5lts.
