Meaning to ask this for a while now. Last time I went of for a wheel I got stuck in some mud and was on my own, so out came the winch.
Couple mates were pulling the rope out and went to far. The rope came off.
Got under the car and had a look and it has snapped off the clamp/bolt on the drum. Has this happen to any one before? I'f so how did attach it so it doesnt break again. It's for a tigerz11 winch

Had to do couple granny knots onto the drum and whined it in until it griped the drum.

most people with plasma jsut stick a cable crimp lug on the end,seeing you should keep a full row of rope on the drum it doesnt hold any load

Rope snapped were it was attach. I wasn't taking notice and they pulled it all out. But looks to be that the rope snapped a while ago.

just tape it to teh lug i was connected to, they are only there to help spool the first layer on

Yeah just get a large battery cable lug from an auto shop and crimp it onto the rope. It's just there to hold the tension while the rope grips onto the drum. Normally a minimum of five winds on the drum will keep it on ok . Alot of people use some bright coloured tape on the line which when they can see from the driver seat they know they have say 10 wraps left on the drum.

Pulling the rope out isn't what snapped it, either have I ever winched with less then a full drum of rope. It was my second pull since I've bought the winch. I think it has snapped under load or when I hooked the hook on the bar and I have tightened it to much.

I'll go buy some lugs

You need to wind the rope on under tension.
Handbrake on and drag the truck up a gravel driveway is my normal method.

Otherwise the drum will try to turn inside rope and load up the attachment point.

My tigerz11 winch did the same, I had a full drum of rope (at least 1 layer) and it pulled the clamp off. The tigerz11 drums are very slippery and turn inside the rope very easily. I spooled mine on under brakes and it still did it. I have it taped on at the moment, will most likely drill a hole in the drum, put the rope through and tie a knot in the end of it just to be sure.

mine did the same this was all spooled on under tension and snapped the clamp off
