| Post subject: | power steering jimny |
hey all just put a deposit down on a 98 jimny going to pick it up on tuesday and it had a bit of a gargleing type noise hard to explan and the guy said it's the ps pump regulator it had a bit of a vibration in it also does this sound right? and if so how would i fix it? |

Sounds like what happens when the pump cavitates. The system may need bleeding to remove air bubbles. |

PS box can fail in a few ways. Leaks ( very obvious ) or damaged internals. Damaged internals usually present as a lumpy movement. The shudder and noise you described is similar to that of when a PS system is running low on fluid, or has air trapped in the lines. What you would be better off doing is taking it to a unbiased mechanic BEFORE handing over any more cash. |

yea its a pretty cheap car so i expected a few problem's ill probs just have a good look into it when i get it ill try bleeding it first and if that doent work there's a jimny at the wrecker near by ill get a box of that thanks for the help |

Could be the pump also. So if it doesn't bleed up and you do hit up the wreckers, get the whole setup. Should be less than $700. |

ive heard a 88 camery low on ps fluid and it doent sound like this 1 so does that mean its not low or do all cars make different noise's when low? |

They are all fairly similar sounding. Like a groaning noise. It doesn't sound like a bearing noise does it? Could be the pulley bearing on the pump? |
