Hi i have a 95 soft top sierra that was bought as a cheap reliable source of transportation and the occasional bit of wheeling but now my wife will be studying at uni and i am going to be transporting my kids around in the zook ( aged 5&7) i am not real keen on having just the lap belts in the back, so is i was to get a rear roll cage section built to protect them in the case of an accident how would i go changing the belts to a lap/sash style belts with the top point mounted to the cage . Would this be the case of only needing a mod plate or an engineer to look at it.

I plan to do this with my rollcage in the back.

The seatbelt bolts are not metric like the rest of the car. 7/16 UNF Thread. There would be an adr standard somewhere for them, and i think it would depend on the engineer how he wants you to mount them. Belts also need to be adr approved.

I would also put some baby seat points in the back also while you at it. Not that a baby is safe in a zook anyway, only for emergency

I had a bit of a look but just not sure on how in depth it would be to carry out this mod, if i could get it all done then approved once it was finshed that would be great but i don't have the time to have to get it all planned out by an engineer then inspected and so on also if it needed to be designed then inspected by an engineer i think it would be way out of my budget.

Did the older 2door 4runners have lap sash? I think they had a small cage in the back, with tabs welded on for belt mounts. Feroza's did also, as both with the fibreglass back, they still had to have a cage for rollover protection.

yeh i'm pretty sure they did i have also noticed that jeep wranglers have a similar set up which is what gave me the idea but because sierras didnt come from the factory with it i don't know how hard it is to do it properly and have it approved and road legal. The reason i am a little clueless with the whole process is i have never tied to do any thing like this that needed approval.

also does any one know if it would be at all possible to get jimny rear seats to fit in the sierra would be better for the kids as they have higher backs and head rests

i have some sierra rear retractable seat belts in the shed somewhere, came from a coily hard top
