Just wondering if anyone has any ideas why my 92 1.3 lt sierra could be surging...I thought i had a bad batch of fuel as it felt like it was starved of fuel and i changed the fuel filter...it was filthy and on back to front !, but when it is cold and when i try to get the revs and put the foot down to change gears it surges and gets like a dead patch...it is like it isn't getting enough fuel...anyone had simular problems. |

is it only when its cold and it gets better when its hot? if so many mechanics (home and professional) are scared of the water heated chokes on sierras and tend to adjsut them off or ziptie them open and so forth if you can when the engine is cold pull the intake housing thingy off the top of the carby and you should see the choke flap, it should be closed and need a little bit of pressure on it with your finger to open up, the revs should rise when cold too if its adjusted right if its open when cold the next thing to check is on the back of the carby there are two water hoses going to a little chamber, check too see that each one is getting to the same temperature, if not the chamber could be blocked and will need looking at to get the choke happening other things you can do while you are there is to get some carby cleaner spray and with the engine running and the revs up a bit spray it all around the barrels of the carby and get some done the little air vent tube that pokes out the top on an angle, that will help get rid of any buildup and hopefully get the fuel spraying out better otherwise being in vic make sure your thermostat is ok so it gets up to temp quickly and the plugs and so on are all good |

Thanks for the advice Royce....I think it may be the plugs as i took the leads off the spark plugs and number 3 plug was really gunked up and the rest were clean...still looking for the sparkplug spanner in the garage[ this may take a while] and will replace them all plus maybe the leads aswell and see if that helps ...carby was clean and no hoses were blocked. |

im trying to change my plugs now, but my third one doesn't want to budge.. I've tried a breaker bar but still no movement.. Is it safe to use wd40 on them? Or any suggestions? |

try and get some pentetrene in there, be careful and take your time otherwise youll break the plug or stuff the thread |

Ok.. Before I left for the shop, I put some wd 40 on there and gave it a quick go.. Long story short, the spark plug broke. The thread is still tight as a bitch and I have no where to try and turn it from.. Is there an easy way to get the rest of plug out? I have a spare engine here.. Would it be easier to just swap them over? |

it snapped off the hex? cheapest is to call an onsite thread repair type dude, he will have the gear to get it out and repair the head, not going to be cheap though |

I haven't changed my plugs yet but was told last night to watch that i don't break them off or stuff the thread...put it in the too hard basket and get someone else to do it for me...anyway should be out playing in the car not working on it as the day is just brilliant. |

its a good idea to put some never seize on the threads so they dont get stuck in there |

Never sieze or copper coat also helps with keeping the firing voltages down, which helps extend the life of the leads, cap and coil (and gives a better spark). Simple but really effective. |
