To give them more power. I have an 84 Sierra with the 1.3 but I want more power. Any ideas

A std one that is well tuned is just fine.

Yes you can put a 4k corolla carby on but it would be easier to just get your carby tuned

yes k series carbies I believe.. havent done it myself, so have a search

Post subject:  Re: What carby do some put on Sierra engines

I doubt there would be any power gain with a 3/4k carby over a std one...

GSXR 750 carbs will give more power :-) and work well on angles!

1 or 2 of the the Keihin CV's off a harly are also good i hear..

either GSXR or Harly carbs will require custom manifolds (though i believe the harly ones are available from the states)

IMO save your $, keep the carby going, and get efi. Any other carby on it is a waste of time.

If you arent going 16b any time soon, consider a spfi (single point fuel injection) conversion.

There is a good performance change with the corolla 4k carby.
Webers are awsome for power but take a fair bit of tuning to get working properly offroad.
Vitara carbys are prob the best to use as they are already setup for offroad and will bolt on with little fuss.

Just for the sake of it I smashed on a 180 holley ... great power = no hill climbs so then i sorted out a 4 -7psi electric fuel pump seems to be fine on most angles but fuel consumption is rather high - all fun and games...

Oh but if you truly want more power source another engine 2.0lt would be nice GTI or 1.6 EFI

  As mentioned, keep the stock one or upgrade to EFI

Well feel free to enlighten us all.... Not much point just saying i'm wrong, and not saying why....

somebody already said that the 4k carb may make better power.

Post subject:  Re: What carby do some put on Sierra engines

Ive had webers and corolla 4k and stock sierra carbys on the same engine and the 4K was the simplest and gave some power improvements over stock. It performed well off road at similar angles the stock would and it was very simple to fit. Secondary throat is mechanical.

The weber i had was awsome. The power gain was incredible and the induction noise was music to my ears.......BUT.....the fuel consumption when on full song was terrible. To get them to work offroad you need to modify them and limit the fuel pressure feeding it. If you didnt do river crossings or steep angles a weber would be fine. Secondary is mechanical

I have 2 x 40mm DCOE 2 barrel webers to go onto a 1.6l vitara engine and into my LWB when I get home, that should go hard.

At the mo its got a 32/36 weber, on a 1.3l, goes real well, new ones should go real good.

Fit an MPFI carb and enjoy not having to fuck around with float levels, jet sizes, needles and seats etc... ever again 8)

Don't like many of your ideas except for this one 8) . Hope you are also going to put a descent cam in it as well!

Um can't remember but im pretty sure a few members are running some cam that apparently worked wonders for the 8V engines. Stekky knew about them.

I have looked at a few cams, but deciding which company is best, new or reground, and also rev range.

Im sort of set on +4000, and new, just company left, have a week to organise, home next wednesday.

I am not saying you are wrong, multiple side draft carbies certainly will increase performance IF you can jet and tune them to suit the application.

Pre pollution Toyota carbies seem to maintain their integrity far better than the late model sierra polution control riddled carbies, they are also a simple bolt on alternative that works very well and will give performace gains over a malfunctioning worn out standard carbie simply because they dont leak, warp, suck air from the multiple lines and vaccum activated diaphrams.

As for the GSXR carbies, people have been toying with muliple carbie setups on suzukis since 3 cyl 2 stroke Lj's in the 70's, In fact there is a set of GSXR carbies on a custom 1300 manifold on the shelf at my mates workshop, it is there because after a dozen "experts" played with them on nearly as many cars over nearly as many years no one could never get it to work any better than a performance modified standard carbie. The fact that the suzuki manifold is water cooled the way it is with the thermostat housing built into the manifold makes it a complicated, ugly, messy, ineffective project to take on and a total waste of time and effort. There is no range of jets available to suit the application and the overall venturi size is too large, unlike a Holley or webber you cant get venturi restrictors. They are designed for a multi valved, multi camed, high compression, short stroked high performance engine that develops power high in its rev range.

Yes in america some people run a harley carbie (because they are redily available), they use the standard manifold with a 90 degree pipe adapter and by all accounts it is a dud giving poor acceleration off the line and working effectively only under wide open throttle applications.

Yes some people have in fact spent a lot of money and time and made a real good go at multiple carbies on a 1300 sierra, these people are far and few between and will end up spending more and gaining less than an efi conversion.

If someone gets on here and has to ask what carbie may improve his cars performance then he is not going to gain anything by sending him off chasing what for him will be unatainable.

Weber and redline manifold.

Part #K599

Like Jas said, could have gone EFI for the price of the carbs and manifold, but I like dirty great big carbs.

That part number is not a manifold and it is not for twins, it is a 90 degree adapter that bolts a single side draft webber onto a standard manifold.

When are ya pulling ya 1.3 out? Anything wrong with it? I'd be keen to buy the lot if it's a good motor.

Nothing at all wrong with it, its a little beauty.

I will be pulling it when home, I get there 29th, so prob the 30th. Few things to organize.

Organize freight n its yours.

That is a POS design..... 90* elbow straight away. I'm sure it will flow nicely...
