Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any bolt on brake upgrades for a swb 1991 hard top vitara.

Do LWB have bigger brakes? If so do they bolt up with no modifications?

LWB have larger brakes I believe, I would assume they are a straight swap.
Not sure if you would need to upgrade the master cyldinder though? Someone will have the answer.

From memory - LWB Vit rotors are 287mm dia, 17mm thick vented. SWB rotors are 290mm dia, 10mm thick solid. That is the difference. Swap the rotors and the calipers.

Do I need the backing plates to bolt on the bigger calipers? Or will the LWB calipers bolt to the SWB backing plates

the LWB calipers fit with the SWB backing plates

As they are similar diameter, will the increased thickness be of benefit in terms of stopping power?

With the LWB rotors being vented being better then the SWB solid rotors then brake fade will be reduced I assume.

Are there other benefits?

calliper size is where the increase comes from

yep venting keeps them cooler, which is better for repeated heavy braking, the calipers and pads are also a lot bigger which helps with pedal feel and outright stopping ability, though I guess if the stock brakes can lock up the fronts thats probably not that great a bonus, I couldnt lock mine up with 235/75 on

2L fronts are the next step up (bigger calipers and I think the discs are about 15mm bigger too) but you then need to space the disc out 8mm, requiring longer wheel studs, and you'll have to either upsize to a 16" XL7 rim or shave the calipers to fit inside 15s.

benT rear disc kit to get rid of the drums, need to find Sierra rotors and Mitsi Galant calipers.

Would increasing the braking capacity increase the capacity to tow?

I really want to keep my swb and tow my race car to the track but car + trailer will be about 1400kg

I highly doubt it, stopping is only one factor to towing!
