Hey guys, last time i was home i discovered a leak in my T-case fwd prop shaft seal. My seal kit arrived the other day from bigjimny and i was wondering what size socket is required to get the flanges off so i can get the seals out? at work atm so im thinking i may need to borrow a big socket. also, any other pointers on doing this job? never tackled it before, figured it cant be that hard...

It isn't a huge job. If you can't undo the flange nut in the car you can remove the whole front output housing and put it in a vise. From memory the nuts are 26mm but I'm prob wrong. Pretty sure I use a 1 1/16" socket which works out to be 27mm. Sorry not much help. |

27mm from memory, rattle gun that bad boy off. Helps if it is in low range at the time. |

cool thanks lads. ill probably drop the whole case out so i can give it a bit of a tidy up and clean, and fit a breather to it! (so much water came out when i drowned it last, coulda been the seal though) plus itll make it a bit easier to do the job. |

I ended up doing a case swap (different reason), But i did do the rebuild on the new case last week including changing seals. should be achievable on the car, with a bit of dicking around, personally id drop it and do on the bench.... only cos i can get the case out in about 20mins now. your only hard part will be getting the flange nuts and possibly the flanges themselves off. i had to use a rattlegun and a bearing puller on one of my flanges. I also snapped a screwdriver prying the little lock tabs out of the nut too. which shaft is leaking? if its the front output shaft, probably easier taking the front housing off if you were doing in-situ. If you look at step 70 here http://www.trail-gear.com/pdf/suzuk-tcase.pdf anyway dude, it really isnt hard. i was worried itd be a mission but its a piece of piss. Take your time and think about what your doin and youll be right. and if its too hard under the car, just pull it out and do on the bench. |

Here is what I did to get the flanges nuts off. Held the jig in the vice and went to town with a crack bar.
