Post subject:  Engineering 31" tyres and lift in NSW - anyone done it?
Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has engineered a rig similar to this in NSW?

31" muddies, 2" OME springs, extended shackles, 4.9 reduction gears...

Not my rig exactly but what I am looking at as a possibility... Or possibly the same type thing but in a coily.

Any info greatly appreciated.

I believe there is a change happening in NSW as to how engineering is done.
The only correct advice I can give you is to call/email an engineer and ask.

I was quoted $880 just to "engineer" a body lift... Dunno if the guy thought i was an idiot but no way i was paying that. God knows what theyd charge for 31s and 2"s of lift.

They charge the sane for an engineers certificate nowhere what's done to it.

When I got my patrol done it was everything altogether (rear seats, lift,,turbo and rims).

The engineering process is currently changing so most likely any information you recieve here will be irrelevant.
Contact the RTA to find a local engineer in your area.

Certificate cost the same, inspections to get it varied depending on how much needs looking at.

Not up on the new system coming in, need to find out soon though.

FWIW (and it's not much, I know...) I have a Vitara engineered for 31s, 3" of suspension and 2" body lift.

31's on zooks, you might be lucky, but i doubt they will like it.

Ring an engineer. End of story.

Been doing some research and talking to a few engineers under the new scheme.

Its doable, but you might have to pass a lane change and brake test at a cost of around $1000.00.

2 inch body lift
1.6 Vit motor

Cost me $800 for the lot

He's good my mate got his lux done there last year before they change the rules
He even specified what type of steel he wanted the steering arm mAde from so u know he's doing his job aNd not just passing anything
He was happy to allow 35 on a lux with brake up grade
So u might be able to get 31 if u put vit lwb brakes on the front
That way he has something to show the rta y he's let u have the upgrade in tire size

Mine is still SPUA and he was fine with that, i would say you would get a different response from him if you were going SPUA and not SPOA

He did mine. Very thorough and knows what he's looking for, but at the same time happy to sign off if he sees that things are done properly.

He's given me provisional go-ahead for 175kW of SR20DET Armsup

End of last year. Before the new system kicked in, but he knew it was coming. Wasn't an official approval by any means, but the technicalities were workable - brake upgrades, strengthening drive-train, weight was enough to qualify for 2.0l turbo 4cyl somehow...
