Have 85sj50 with GTI motor and 31s twin locked. Will one litre gears be ok?

what I am trying to find out is what ratio the one litre ran? I have been offered gears to put in my 1.3 case which supposedley gives one litre ratios, but what is that?

The first link i gave you tells you that 4.16 gears have the same high range as 1 litre gears. that would be 1.580

The 1lt cases are: High:1.590, Low: 2.558
Only 1lt trasnfers gears out of a case with the 4WD light switch will work in your 1.3 case. So if you're paying money for them, try and find out.

Thanks for the information folks, it has made up my mind not to proceed with the purchase of the gear set as it will not give me enough reduction. I think I am going to need something between 4 and 6.5 to extract the best from the GTI engine and the 31" tyres with the 2 x autolockers. Will have to keep an eye on the stuff for sale.. Thanks again Macca

SierraDan , I fitted my 5.14s last night and am happy with the responsiveness and performance but they do tend to whine a bit. I was wondering if yours are also noisy and if this is just a characteristic of these gears?

They will whine a bit. You get used to it haha. Run it for a tank of fuel or two then change the oil and put thicker oil in, might make it a bit quieter.. you'll get a bit of fluid drive in low when the oil is cold but.

Yes just to try it. I think I am glad I did not go for 6.5s. This weekend will be the test. First trip to the Vic high country since fitting twin auto lockers GTI motor and gears, should be unstoppable if I can keep it on its wheels this time

Had 2 days on tracks above Walhalla in Vic high country and am absolutely stoked. Lazy Suzi is so controllable and so much easier to drive safely with the 5.14s and the twin autolockers. In low gear I had to drive it down the steepest descents and even 2nd held it back on most hills. The control it gives me climbing out of rivers etc I could not have dreamed of before. 31s twin lockrites 5.14s and GTI motor has turn the little Zook into a real fun weapon. Just need to sort out my crappy new Bluepak springs (30mm lower on r/h/side than left) and I will have a good toy. Macca
