does anybody know if there was a coil pack version of the vitara g16b? (north-south config.) or did the coil pack engine only come in the baleno (east-west config.) ?? |

BlueSuzy wrote: why cant u use the baleno motor?? im not sure if i can or not.. ive fond out from a good source that if i get a g16b coilpack motor, all i would need is basically a long block, and everything from my g13bb would bolt up (manifolds, coolant hoses, swap cam in, etc) and use an adaptor kit to mate it to the gearbox (like g16b into sierra) and i just assumed that with a baleno being a E-W motor that it wouldnt be a simple swap. thats under the assumption that the the details are about using a N-S motor, which would make sense. |

That would be my plan! Nothing wrong in making the bal g16b e/w to n/s. Just use ur jim gear, sump, pickup etc and ecu. Need adaptor plate also.. Only difference u may get is stud/bolt location for ac/ps pump. |

ive considered that.. but thought about some of those things you mentioned like accessory locations/brackets and one other thing i think would be different is coolant lines to and from radiator.. looks like your using a baleno motor in your lwb build correct? |

Im using a baleno coilpack g16b in my lwb and my last swb also had one.Alot of differences going from sierra to baleno, but Jim to baleno are more similar to each other. |

I know they have coilpacks and a cam sensor, But do jimnys g13bb run a crank sensor? If not, The normal vit blocks should be avaliable also. |

Jimnys don't have a crank sensor hole? I was lead to believe they did until i went to buy a jimny sump! No hole.. Baleno and g16b GV's have holes at the front of the crank to pick up/see the teeth on a special crank timing pulley. |

ill check about the crank sensor next time at work (jimnys at work). but i was told by a guy at suzistore, whos obviously done the swap in a list of things needed to be swapped that coil packs were included. so to me that suggests that he used a coilpack motor, which with what your saying would have the crank sensor.. unless i misinterpreted it, and it was something that had to be added? |

Having said that, the Baleno motor should work also. Just don't fit the crank sensor. However if you need a crank sensor, the baleno is the better choice, as it already has one. Otherwise you would need to drill the GV block to accept the sensor, and run a baleno timing pulley with the pickups for the sensor. |

Ratty on here got a sump from the later GVg16b to fit onto his Baleno motor into his sierra. Its a better shape suited to 4wding than the baleno. I knew they had the hole in the sump but didnt know about the no sensor. The GV's are quite rare. |

yeah, the fact the swb GV's are rare is the thing that worries me. i guess if i got a baleno motor and didnt need the crank sensor i could make up a bung for the hole, or bolt the sensor up and cut the wire.. |

The sensor is on the outer rim edge of the sump. So either modify the sump to bolt a sensor in, or make a bung with a normal sump. Not really another option. The sensor has a plug connection. No wires to cut if needed. |

royce wrote: just put any 16 valve bottom end in, put your G13BB head on and job done engines done either head gasket or head. thats my reason for the swap.. if its just the gasket ill just change it and get the jimny on the road and do the swap later, but if its the head ill do the engine now.. |
