I remember a few years ago in Vic a taco was good enough in place of a speedo. Is this still the case?

I bought a new speedo cable because it was broken but as I put it in I noticed the little lug in the transfer is broken off. I really don't want to split the case to fix it. So will just the taco pass?

In a sierra tcase you dont have to split it to replace the drive gear. Get a new gear, spend 5mins under the vehicle and done. No worries then with your speedo and a roady.

Yes, Undo the bolt and it should pull out..if its broken off its going to be a pain..

Some people have trouble with them even with the lug to grip and pull out..

mmm Taco's.

As you may know, Tachometer's only indicate the revolutions per minute / hour of the engine (depending how many zero's are on teh tacho) not speed. I'm not 100% certain of the rules reg's in Vic, but I would say it is very unlikely that it would be legal to use a tacho as a speed indicator in any state or territory in aus.

Speedo IS a requirement for compliance but the chances of a not working speedo being picked up during the inspection are slim if the car is unregistered because it can't be test driven unless the garage has a trade plate.

Put up a wanted post, someone might have one spare, or try wreckers. Unsure if they can be bought new?
