Howdy, I'm after the dimensions of the stock shroud unit + thermo fan that goes onto the radiator in a M13A Jimny. Particularly the measurement from the radiator/front of shroud to the back of the fan motor. If it looks like it will fit for me I will buy one.

I believe that some came with the fan attached to the engine...,mine did, but I am fairly sure that option won't work as well for me as an electrical one would. The engines on an angle compared to the rad, I would have to find some of them studs, a fan.. and I want to be able to turn it off. I have seen some with electrical fans on ebay so there must be some out there. Or perhaps another car that uses the same engine/rad uses them?

Why?
My engine gets hotter than I would like with a good ebay thermo cable tied right onto the radiator, i.e. if I do a lot of hard slow driving on a hot day it overheats :/, its not capable of cooling itself down once you have got it to 110oC+ and then don't move the zook, I need to go for a fast drive or turn it off to cool it back down. Soooo I'm thinking it might be worth trying with a shroud to get more air over more metal. And buying one is a lot easier than making one. If this isn't possible we will have to make one up though. I have ~70mm of room between the radiator and the water output/pulleys on the front of the engine in the tightest spot at the top, so not a huge amount of room :/.

Here is the best 2 pics I seem to have of the current set up that has worked ok for 2 years, but there is always room for improvement :), I'm also going to see if it makes a difference if I use the inbuilt oil cooler in the rad instead of the external one etc, so I have some oil temp gauges and T junctions coming. I only realised what those 2 outlets on the bottom were recently lol, and I'm trying to track down some fittings.

In The middle of the radiator, the shroud is 50mm and then out towards the air box its 125mm. Hope that helps a bit, although have you checked for blockages in the radiator and hoses etc? Maybe a flush will help resolve this issue? The m13a does get quite warm, but if it's overheating I'd put money on there being a problem that a fan isn't going to fix... Could even be the thermo? Water pump on the way out?

Just some things to think about :) good luck!

Hi, thanks for replying :)

So its thicker on the side than in the middle?, or I'm confused :/, got a pic by chance?

I'm imagining that it looks something like this:?

Does your have the fan on the engine or a thermo like that out of interest? :)

Yea its always been bad, and I have noticed that the engine runs hot haha, the original sierra rad kept over heating and then the top blew apart one day... :). The engine hasn't done many kms and the jimny rad i have is new, and the zook doesn't clock up many kms. So nothing should be wore out. I will be taking the auto cooler off the front of the radiator and seeing if there is any mud in between them this weekend though, that's one thing i haven't done.. I don't have any more of them special cable ties.... Even if that's causing it to be slightly hotter than normal I would still like it cooler if possible :), I would feel much better not having to watch the temp all the time. I will see if I can make up a shroud this weekend, we will see what happens.. we don't have anything that can weld up thin metal :/., so it might be plastic or metal and a lot of cable ties :\.

I have bought a oil temp guage and a T junction that should be here in a week or so then I can see how hot the auto is getting too, and perhaps move that cooler to a new spot or do something about it if that would help the water temp too.

Cheers!

Na looks nothing like that... It basically gets wider near the air box side of things to stop shit hitting the fan as such lol

I'll try get you a pic tomoz if I get home in daylight hours
