How is that better than the EL/EF 100/110A upgrade? Surely it doesn't make any sense to ship an alternator from the US when wreckers are full of easy-to-fit 100A alternators? Steve |

Is this not easier to fit? is pretty much bolt on, I am trying to put new parts on my zook rather then second hand parts and even with the shipping they are pretty cheap. James |

You can buy EL alternators new if you want to The problem I see with them is they are unlikely to have any parts support here, so if you drown it and ruin it you have to wait for another to be sent over, where the Falcon ones you can get it repaired anywhere or grab one from a wreckers to get you going again same day in pretty much any town in Australia. |

the 2 falcon alt swaps ive seen have had to be changed to a multirib belt system and they squeeled and slipped all the time is this usual royce? Or just not getting the belt tight enough? |

Thankyou Royce, this was the problem i had come up with hence the ques do any cars use these as a std alternator, i dont wish to change the fan or water pump yet so this seems a easier option. James |

It is possible to run a falcon alternator on a single v belt. I did it on my 660. Tension was critical, but it did work once tight. You could convert to polyvee and add a falcon alternator for less money than the landed price of that 78A unit, and it's not like the falcon swap is hard. Still, it seems you are set on the GM swap regardless of how little sense it makes. I hope it meets your expectations. Steve. |

Steve, i have just seen a falcon set up for a falcon, things im not sure about, do i need to change my waterpump to a barina one? the more i read the more confused i am..., where do you drill the hole in the bracket for the new alternator? can i still run with my original fan or do i need to swap it for a thermo fan? i have read the thread in the good tech section but still confused on these bits, is there anyone out there with pics that might help? i would also be willing to pay someone in the canberra area to do the conversion for me. Thanks James |

Swap to a single v pulley from an ea-ed falcon and don't play with anything, or use a swift crank pulley, vitara wp pulley, your stock fan and bolt up a 4pk belt. Use the stock falcon bottom bolt and drill the Sierra bracket out to 10mm. Top bolt can be whatever works. It's really not that hard. Steve. |
