Hey guys,
New to the forums. I just picked up a 94 vitara jlx. Needed a small 4x4 to get access to hunting spots around vic. I also own a 78 zh fairlane with a 351. That thing does not do off road very well!
Its currently got 31 inch muddies on it and a 2inch lift (i think). Picking it up tomorrow.

Would be wanting to get any information on mods that I can do to it to make it a more reliable off roader. I'm not going to driving up and down canyons like some u crazy bastards, but I want to be able to deal with hairy situations if they arise.
Looking at bullbar, winch and snorkel to start me off.

I havn't seen many on the forum, mostly sierras, I love the sierras but I couldn't find a unrusted one, nor one that has been bashed up. Also, I prefer a 1.6 litre engine. I am a little bit over engine swaps, I've had my fair share of em in my life

any info would be great. Cheers.
Sam

Oh here's a pic.

Grandpa Bar Armsup

Welcome mate, have a look through the rigs section for the full range of Vits and mod options. It's really just a case of picking what's going to suit your application and budget.

If u want to make it reliable then u will want to change front diff to a steel gv one and get calmini rear axels or better yet full floating rear
If ur in vic u will want rear disk as mud eats rear shoes
Other then that just make sure u adjust ur steering stops so the tires don't rub on the chassis and have to much lock or u will snap cv
I'm running 31 twin lock rights and 3 in lift and my car is going really strong . I haven't broken a calmini axel yet where I use to do stock ones all the time and with not much front droop and adjusted steering stops I have not done a cv in a few months now

Is there any info on here in regards to doing a rear disc conversion.
Will look into the other stuff you mentioned.
Cheers

BenT provides the kit:

You need Sierra rotors and Mitsi Galant calipers (can be a little tricky to find)
Install is fairly easy, instructions are pretty good... Basic tools plus a slide hammer will help getting axles out.

I've done it, but didn't do much of a write-up :shame: (may have had trouble logging in at the time...)

Chop, buzbox and christover have done it too, should be able to find their build threads easy enough.

Happy to take some more pics if you need them.

If you're really keen you can upgrade the front to LWB calipers and vented discs (bolt on) or 2L calipers and rotors (bit more complicated.)
