I'll be looking at buying a LWB vitara soon. Auto in a 1.6. Is there any general problems these things have? Things to look out for? It will be somewhat of a daily (only used when I have our baby or need to pick him up). It will be used to tow a 4.3 meter or so boat (ally side console with a 40 or 50 on the back). Will also be used for camping stuff. No real hard stuff. Probably wouldn't run more then a 31. Won't be a hektik rock crawler or anything. Just general duties.

I would go the 2l if u want to tow with it
31 on a 1.6 towing would be slow

Prefer the 1.6. Can definitely go a smaller tire without any drama. Are the 2.0 liters much of a gussler?

2.0 v6, I would think so. Better off getting the 2.5gv for the same economy

Yeah, from experience with 31s on a 1.6 I'd suggest bigger motor or smaller tyres for towing.

Ok so besides gearing trouble is there any things that generally fuck out on them quickly?

FYI vitara's only have a towing capacity of around 420-430kgs, any idea on what the tinny/motor/trailer weighs?

i hear the rear diff's aren't shep proof :P

personally i'd get a 2.0 v6 LWB auto (SV620) & chuck some 5.12's in it & a bit of lift & some 30 or 31" tyres

It'll come in weighted about 570kg with fuel an loaded for a day trip. Installing mechanical trailer brakes isn't that Difficult and can be achieved without too much hassle. What's your fuel economy like Atari? You hve the v6?

they run the same rating braked & unbraked, which is a bit of a crock of shit really....

i'm the 2.0 4cyl J20a, fuel economy is between 11L/100kms around town & 28L/100kms in big sand dunes.

The j20a a better motor then the v6?

Better economy and not much power difference from what I've heard.

4cyl J20a = SWB

V6 H20a = LWB

My last fill in the LWB 1.6 was bang on 10L/100km- according to the speedo which under reads due to running 30's so it would be slightly better than that.

^ Haven't tried to tow anything yet, Chop used to tow his pod around with it though. The gearing isn't that bad just need 4th for hills.

In regards to the h20a what are they like to work on? Pita? Do they have any problems? Like cracked blocks or anything?

Wouldn't mind something like this. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/underwoo ... 1001837472

It's done 310,000kms. Whats the average life span of the h20s. Am I gonna buy it and it's gonna blow up on the way home?

towing in a 1.6 is horrid. Say good bye to fuel economy (i know its same with all cars but If I tow a box trailer I get like 180km to a full tank :| )

I had nothing like that towing a trailer, mind you my trailer only weighs 200kg empty but loaded i'm around 300kg. I was traveling down to victor harbor and back and get 3 trips out of a tank with the trailer on.
Getting over easily over 300km out of a tank.

Keep in mind Vits had a few different sized tanks over the generations...
