Hi I'm new here I've had a 1989 seirra for a little while now and it has a 2inch lift kit, 2inch spring lift kit, duel batteries and 31" muddies. Its a bit banged up and has seen better days.
Now I'm planing on taking it of the road at the start of october for a big overhaul.
I've have a good welder professional welder on hand and a freind of the family is a engineer and im a spray painter
I'm in nsw and I'm doing my homework to see what I can do also see if anyone has any good ideas I want everything engineered and road worthy

So heres my plans so far
-Full respray in and out in a high strength low gloss army green
-1.6 efi engine conversion with extractors 2" exhaust and custom snorkel
-hilux diff conversion with air lockers all round and back disc brakes
-a 3inch lift kit
-costum back roll bar with tyre mount on it
-custom spotlight mount for top Front windscreen
-storage area in the back for slide out fridge and recovery gear
-bullbar with winch mount and side bash bars

Any advice and ideas would be appreciated. :D

i dont get why people put lux diffs under zooks....then ya back in the ruts....i have minimal off set rims so i dont fit in the ruts....ya out drive the patrols and hiluxs all day....

depending on tyre size ya wanna run...just get chromo axels and cvs in there and run 35's....

If you are staying with 31's there's no need for hilux diffs.
Why a 3" lift "kit" ? No one has ever managed to make 3" springs ride or flex unless they carry 3456543kg of payload like Shep.

Suzukikid, you can't run 35's with front cromo's alone, especially in NSW, where there is a lot more traction, but you are otherwise spot on.

Reason I want the lux diffs is mainly give me a better center of gravity and would primly be running 33"
And what do guys recommend for ride height?

If COG is your concern, fit 2" springs, no body lift, chop your guards to suit 33's, adjust your bump stops, and fit large offset wheels. Awesome stability, without all the fucking around.

they wont give you better COG especially being SPOA.

33s on lux diffs are useless may as well run 32s on zook diffs and youll have more clearance.

ride hieght depends on what and how you drive but remember low is the new high!

SPOA wasn't mentioned, but whilst heavy diffs are good for stability, the flip side is the added unsprung weight has to be dragged up the hill, the bigger gears sap more power, and the larger tyres required to maintain ground clearance adds even more weight.

The more varied terrain you drive the less you want heavy diffs. If it's 100% technical crawling (like Sierradan is into) then heavy diffs are fine, but 33's are far too small to make up for the added bulk, track width and weight. Your car will be far more all-round capable with 31's and Suzuki diffs with cromo's.

IMHO 33's on 'lux diffs would be the worst of both worlds.

31's, 2" lift, chromos, twin locked and geared was awesome for the amount of work it takes to get t done, which is stuff all. And I found it very reliable.

sorry its not really true, just a general thing but unless they go all out along the lines of your build people generally chuck in 2 inch lift springs and 33s like old mate up here and think how sick their rig is up against their mates patrol with 6 inch coils.
(not having a go at anyone haha)

i apoligise, while its not always true i would put a wager that most cars with SPOA are higher and therefore have a higher COG than most SPUA vehicles.

Going to all that work might as well coil it why it is apart
I'd go 33 on the zuke diffs with fliped rims
Cromo cv and axles or better yet full floating rears

Thanks I'm still want to figure out the best thing to do with my suspension I've been told that if I extend the shackles and tack one load bearing spring out it will give me good flex

RUF (Rear Springs in the front).
Usually hilux guys will tell you to get extended shackles.
