Good price for G16B 16v EFI engine+loom etc?

Hey guys, been lurking around the forums for a while now and i think iv finally sponged enough info out of all the "G16B into sierra" topics to do it semi confidently...only thing is finding the engine/loom etc.

Im in Perth and been calling around some wreckers etc. found a place that will sell a low km EFI G16B 16v with loom, air-box and VSS etc for $2.2k (not installed) which i thought was a bit of a ripoff what do you guys reckon?

Also Suzi store in midland quoted approx $8k 8O but that was for "drive in, drive out" (also rip i thought considering the car is only worth $4.5K)..

Will also be looking to sell my G13BA (with ~130,000km) soon, whats a reasonable price for this? (keep in mind it wont have a sump/flywheel etc)

I do mainly sand driving but noticed the stock front shocks are sagging on my coily and i sometimes bottom out on approach of some hills..ive also heard the shocks that come in this kit are sh*t (way to hard)

Most I would charge including a front cut ( if I could get one :roll: ) would be $5k. And thats for a 'nothing left out' installion! ( stainless band clamps, not screw type hose clamps. Stainless intake pipe, heat shields, P/S lines and mount kit, new timing belt, tensioner, water pump, 2 pump and surge tank setup.... or coily tank if available.... etc etc)

I paid about 1k for my G16B and loom a couple of years ago. This also included shipping from Melbourne to Hobart.
Low kays, the ODO said about 25000. I have no reason do doubt that, as the engine was clean enough to eat off and has been very reliable.

i payed $1200 for 1.6efi with loom and fuel tank. also came with parts for 4 wheel disc brakes on my sierra and power steering.

I paid $2000 for mine. That's Perth prices for ya. One might come up on here that you can truck over? Or try some wreckers over east maybe.

The $2000 was for a 70000 km baleno motor though so I thought it was ok price wise.

Got a whole Baleno for $600. 90 000km, repairable write off. But that was a combination of luck, breaking balls &Sydney being a big market.
Conversion cost around $3000 with all the bits to give the motor a birthday.
I've got lovells raised springs with those shithouse shocks. With poly bushings the ride is very rigid, but the alternative to this is to spend heaps on a custom coily suspension.

I'm looking for one ( half cut that is ) in Brisbane at the moment and of the 3 places I've rung no-one has them as they are now asking to much money . Well over the $2000 mark . The best I could do is $1380 for motor only with the alternator and starter missing . NO ECU or wiring loom. Aparently they use to go for $1400 but there is now to much demand for them elsewhere from what I'm being told.

Yep. Its been 12 months now since I've bought one. They just can't get the front cuts anymore. Too hard to find in Japan, and the space in the container is better used shipping a high $$$ front cut like R34GTR, or TD truck motors. :cry:

Yea the half cut really looks like the most cost effective way to do it, at least that way even if you pay a little more for it than just the engine and loom etc you can sell off the extra parts you dont need and make a little back..
Another forum suggested http://www.justjap.com.au/ for halfcuts but i emailed them awhile ago and still havent got a reply.

Still think $2k is a bit steep considering the price of the WHOLE car tho

If anyone finds anything half decent they dont want, let us know

Have you checked pickles auctions?

That's where I got a whole repairable writeoff 2001 baleno with 80000km on the clock for $800. I had to do an absentee bid and got it delivered by truck to my joint, they said it would be like ebay where it starts at a reserve and if nobody bids I'd get it for that, but there's no way that happened, I reckon I could have got it far cheaper if I could have been there on the day, but at the time I couldn't get the day off work.

They come up all the time on there, just got to get the right one, that may take a while.

Found this http://www.pickles.com.au/cars/item/-/details/03-97--Suzuki--Vitara--SE416C-Type5-JX--Softtop/980090689 which is perfect..except for the 350,000+km on the odo :shocked: so the engine is probs on its way out (or needs some SERIOUS reconditioning)... that guy did some major driving in it..

Theres two others under the "salvage" section but they where both G16A carby's.
Good place too keep an eye out on tho.

Might have to start looking at the baleno option if nothing else comes up :cry: ..and that involves custom coolant piping and some solution for the dizzy (if you cant get the coilpack model) am i rite?

Correct. But don't bother with dizzy model. You will need a complete vitara head and angle dizzy from vit. Not worth the effort IMO.

I payed I think $1500 for a avg km 1.6 mpfi. With cut down loom ecu and dash cluster! But I had to drive to bundy to get it!

I know you need the right angle adaptor for the thermo housing on the baleno conversion, will the one from my engines thermo housing fit? its right angle with bolt spacing at about 67mm...

Also, off topic, but what are peoples recommendations for rust prevention, nothing developing yet but iv just noticed lately in the rainy weather that the side rail (under the doors on the body with that plastic thing running along it) usually has water in it and i know its a strong point for rust on most zooks.. iv heard lanolin oil or linseed oil or something?
