Hi all ive purchaced a LWB vitara a couple of weeks ago for $1000 regoed till jan 2013 one owner 250000km with a suspected a cracked head, anyhow i stll thought with a new head or new gasket it is still worth every cent for that price. ok so i drove it home from sydney to newcastle and it didnt seem to get hot until i got home to open the gates and put it in the shed by the way the dipstik was covered in milky sludge i pull the engine down and remove the head, gave it a clean up and sure enough hairline crack from 2 of the welsh plugs inside the head, no worries found a new head put engine back together ,new oil and filters new coolant and moment of truth started first go awsome now i have only been driving to work for a couple of days now whick is only a 20 min trip each way and have had no troubles at all. this arvo me and my boy took it out for a little cruze in the bush and about 15min in the temperatue started to rise?? now its got me a bit worried and i want to sort this problem out as id say whatever the prob is cracked the last head any ideas on what i should be checking? any advice would be awesome cheers tommorrow im going to check if my thermo is actually working and maybe make a switch for it?? |

Fan clutch can be a common cause of over heating. New one, or refil the fan oil is worthwhile. The thermo fan is for the air con. Worth checking all the cooling system out, as it may have caused original head failure. When I fitted a new motor, I replaced all welsh plugs, all hoses, water pump and had radiator and motor flushed. These motors are prone to cracking if get hot. Kept my old cracked motor going with silver seal for over 2 years. |

http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=28644 This is how I refilled mine. New ones can be got from ebay. When working correctly, the fan is not spinning, unless motor is hot enough. |

If your going to do the radiator do it properly & get it cleaned at a radiator repair place, WAY cheaper insurance than getting it wrong your self. But check the water pump & fan as christover said. |

well turns out i had blew off a small radiator hose , the one that goe from the thermostat itsy whata under the manifold has just been snaped off . i must of looked pass this when i had filled my radiator up when doing the head in the shed as ive got carpet in there and when id filled it up i could not hear or see the leak today when filling it back up after giving it a quick flushout , coolant came leaking out under there. i cut it off rejoined it for now until i can get a new one as its pretty perished took the zuk for a good run out the bush and and temp guage went to about a 1/4 but didnt go passed that. getting a liitle more confident now but do u think it should be ok to go up the beach now |
