Hello. I have a 1987 SJ51 with a Aisan 4L 4 carby. Recently it is experiencing an high idle problem. The low idle is fine (800 RPM). After driving and the engine is warm, the engine idles at close to 2000 RPM (higher than the normal choke RPM). Kicking the accelerator causes it to drop back to normal idle speed, but most of the time this doesn't work. I don't think its choke as the engine doesn't run on when it is turned off. The carby was rebuilt 2 years ago and the tank has been clened out a while ago. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing it is the choke. Is that the standard carby? There is an fuel cutoff solenoid to stop the engine from running-on.

Is both coolant hoses to the choke really hot when the engine is hot? If not one is blocked or you choke itself is blocked or your coolant is low.

The choke is wide open. Something is sticking in the accelerator linkages. There seems a lot of sideways movement on the pivot point of the accelerator pump arm. Could this be the problem and how do I fix it?

Cheers.

Try a new cable and a stronger return spring.
Or rebush spindle so it don't have slack. ??
