Hey guys, after a long wait i have just received my 4.9 reduction gears from LROR. Just unpacking my package to find one of the larger roller bearings to be squished and also looking closely at one of the gears i looks to have a chip out of it ? This is a brand new set of gears..... Would this matter ? Whats your thoughts ?

Yeah I wouldn't accept that. I've had crushed bearings before. Sometimes they are a little light on packaging, but they usually try pretty hard. Afterall, its a bloody long way for a hunk of metal to travel!

I wouldn't use the gear! Get it replaced!!
But ten bucks says they try and get you to pay for freight there and back again... basically making it impossible for you to replace it (because like your going to pay $200+ to get it replaced when it wasn't even your fault).
If they don't pay for your shipping there and back to get it replaced then lodge a claim with the ACCC (it's real easy you just call and they take the info and give you a number, then you notify LROR who have 30 days to do something about it and after that ACCC gets involved and has ways to pressure companies - even in the US)
Hilarious that they still don't have a presence in Australia yet (and don't even think about quoting the URL of that rancid overpriced place in WA that claims to resell their stuff). Such a lack of entrepreneurship... they obviously have the money to afford to ship a large container worth of their stock to AU and there is tonnes of ebay shops or brick and mortar shops that would love to be the exclusive reseller for their gear. A shame really.

Scorpydude - why not do it yourself then if it's such a big shame?
Correct if I'm wrong but I think one of the guys on here just had to cut the first gear in half and supply a photo and they replaced it with no cost.

I would absolutely store and sell low range products for them in Australia if they shipped over a container of their stock but there are people out there that would be in a much better position then I am with an existing store etc to do this.
The problem isn't the lack of available enterprising people in Australia ready to do business for LROR it's the lack of LROR aspirations to make it happen and realise the potential (and the added benefit for their customers...)

If a set of gears cost say 500 cost to them and its the size of your two hands how much is a container gunna cost? I dont know of many businesses that could just float 60 grand no worries. I really dont think the market is big enough in aus to make it worthwile.

We get a 20foot container is around $8000 US for us from America to Australia. For a 40ft its about $3000 more.
I don't know about you, but I've probably paid close to $750 myself to LROR JUST IN SHIPPING EXPENSES ALONE through all my orders and I'm not even anywhere near to a 'serious' 4wder etc.
The cost of a shipping container is absolutely dismal compared the the cost of the stock you can fit inside of it when packed correctly.
I disagree with the arguments that the market isn't big enough because the fact of the matter is we have nothing that comes even close to LROR range of goods here in Australia. I would argue the market is being held up by the fact that every time an Aussie needs to order something quite often they are paying a large portion of their costs to shipping. The "market" in Australia hasn't even had it's roof found yet.
Floating 60 grand worth of stock for exclusive (for the time being at least) rights to resell LROR stock? That's pittance for the rights you would have. A personal loan would cover that! Let alone a business loan (not that most businesses worth a damn would need it). Most people pay more for their new Toyota Land Cruiser then that!
Do you know how much profit that first container alone would make!? Australian customers would love a local reseller for cheaper postage, quicker delivery times and better returns handling (such as the OP's situation). You would almost immediately have most of the AU market for certain products - so stock would move. After that it's just a matter of watching stock trends and making sure the JIT stuff is handled well.

How could you. Without an accurate business model, there is no way to tell if they could support such a distribution network. As it stands, they have been rapidly expanding their manufacturing divisions, moving to a much larger premises 2 years ago. Perhaps their business cannot support the growth level required to stake distributors around the globe. For all we know, they are happy with their current arrangement, and have no plan to change it...... And I dare say that the AU market is a very small part of their business.

Oh, and $60K worth of stock wouldn't come close to filling a 20 footer.

Its pretty easy to make an educated guess as to how much LROR moves in Australia but that isn't even the point. The point is Australia has room to grow, so whatever is moving at the moment and being held up by dis-trust for international buying, absorbent shipping costs, slow delivery and hard to handle warranty claims really has no bearing on what an Australia presence could achieve here.
Anyway I'm done - got better things to do then argue on the internet. As long as people keep complacent about LROR and don't voice their enthusiasm (and support+money!) to have a local presence then nothing is going to change, and that seams like the typical motto for people around these parts.
Good luck with the replacement xedent.

scorpydude wrote: Its pretty easy to make an educated guess as to how much LROR moves in Australia How? Sierra's and older Vitara's are dieing out and getting harder to find, they don't do much/anything for Jimny's or the newer Vitara's. I'd think their Suzuki sales here might be smaller then the other brands like Jeep, Toyota etc. It may bring the shipping costs down if they bring goods into Australia via sea, but then you have a middle man adding his margin.

Not to mention that we could get LROR parts cheaper from LROR in the sates than we could from LROR if they were here, as they would have transport, customs and import fees, local warehousing costs etc.
LROR is VERY accessable. I doubt a shop front here would be of any benifit to them.
And LROR are re-sellers themselves, so you would most likely have to broker distributor rights deals with every one of their suppliers before an agreement was made.

and you reckon post in aus is any quicker. im in perth and i have been buying parts from over east for my skylines for years, i can most of the time get parts from america quicker than the east, and for cheaper than i can get the same product in the east...
it would probably end up with a similar situation. as fatzook said there would then be a middle man adding his margin on top which would nullify the cheaper shipping costs

I had a gearset catch on fire pretty much and I send them photos and they were happy to replace it at the cost of postage for the new gear.

X lots scorpy buy the time you ship the comtainer wharehouse the stock pay duties and then freight to au customers it would be WAY WAY cheaper to pay lowrange direct and pay the shipping from the US. just duties will add 20% to the cost of the product

It's not looking good on a replacement, they say they install them all the time like that with no problems. That if I really do want it replaced it will take easily over 30 days to just process it.
Do you guys think it would be a problem ?

Do you guys think it would be a problem ? What a horrible position to be put in. Keep the emails, a link to this thread and if there is ever an issue you have records.
