Looking into buying a winch.
Some advice on what load rating would be great.
fleabay have 4000lb with synthetic rope for under $150
worth the risk or should I be looking at something more powerful

A stock zook is around a tonne.. so factor in a steep hillcimb or deep mud.. and that is a lot of extra power needed to pull the zook.. so min 6000 pound I reckon... :P

id try and get a 9500lb one.
all im doing to my zook is WARN 9500lb winch, snatch strap and tree trunk protector plus the other bits and bobs to be on the safe side. D shackles and stuff.
least you will no your gear can get you out of it. you get what you pay for with winches but bud..
try and get a decent brand name one if you can get the coin. backed with decent warranty in case something does play up.
just my 2 bobs buddy hope it helps..

:)

Have been told that the zook's chassis does not like huge forces on it..so 8000 pound max I reckon.. I mean 9500 pound is over kill...don't forget you can do a double line pull on any winch so more pulling power straight away...a bit slower tho..

I ran a warn 6000 lb on mine for years and it did the job, but often required a winch block to get enough power.
These days I run a 10000 2 speed. The cheaper brands can be more than adequate. Do you drive places away from civilisation where the winch is your only means of rescue?

i had a 12000 on mine as it was almost the same price and im glad it was that big some times. You will end up using it to recover your mates more than your self.

I dont stray very far from civilization. there is plenty of very nasty, very challenging, very fun tracks on my door step. Im on a pretty tight budget being a student and if i do have to spend extra money to get a more suitable product i will. i would just rather save that money for other things i will use alot more often like good lighting etc.

Dont laugh at me but ive gotta teeny lil 2000 pound atv winch on mine that cost me 130 its all a matter of pulleys. through two blocks ive pulled my girl outta deep sand, mud, off rocks, when ive exceeded ramp over angle, and out of one or two predicaments. the down side is, the more blocks you run, less pull lengh you have. I use extention cables to get my anchors lined uout, the i put the block on my first anchor cable, another on front recovery point then out to my second anchor cable. viola! 5mtns of 4 toe pull!pays to have a jack and shovel with you and a set of sand boards.

I think i might give it a crack. 4000 with a snatch halves to winch load so, equiv 8000.
and there nice nd small so i dont have modify bar to fit it.
