Hey guys, Slightly new to all of this, but i have a 2001 suzuki jimny, which im in the process of putting a 2 inch lift kit, and also getting a set of Maxxis Bighorns.... My question is what is the biggest size/width tyres can i run? and also would i have to do any modifications to the engine to help it cope with the tyres, or will it be fine? |

standard engine/driveline, go 215/75 15's. Any bigger than that and you'll feel it driving around town, and the gearing in the bush won't be that great either |

Hey mate, Id only recommend bighorns if your doing some serious 4x4ing (deep ruts/mud etc)..i do mainly sand/rock driving and the biggest tire i could get away with was 235/75/R15 which is roughly 29"...i wouldnt go much bigger than that on stock gearing unless you want it to be like your starting in 3rd every time you take off(youll bog the engine down too much) if you want any bigger id suggest getting reduction gears and a suspension lift (scrap the body lift unless your upgrading the engine IMO) Its so cringe when you see a vehicle that someone has just "slapped on" some 31" muddys for the look of it...its especially funny watching them struggle with the bottom quarter of the hill EVERYTIME... All terrain 235/75/R15 is my recommendation but it depends on what you want to do with your car... |

Hey man, Yeah ill be doing mostly sand dunes and beach runs.. even possibly rocky terrain... Dont really want too big just yet, want something to get me to more places i couldnt before cause of the ride height, Although i am getting a 2 inch suspension lift not just a body lift. I've been told All Terrains are good, theres just so many descisions to choose from and not sure whats the best |

For sand driving youll want smaller rims with bigger (and wider) tires to give you a bigger "footprint" when you let the tires down. .if your not getting the suspension lift right away you will probs need the BL in the meantime (29" is still a LARGE wheel) just to clear the arches and/or bumper on full flex.. about a month ago i saw a stock vit with 31's trying a hill and everytime he got to the bottom all the wheels would bottom out in the arches  I can recommend the tires im running for a starting point? only heard good things about them which i can add to...MAXXIS 771 A/T bravo series. Oh yeah hahah might of been a good idea to say I'm getting it lifted next week, that's why I was wondering what's the best opposition, see I don't want to go too wide cause then I would have to do some work to the engine. I got quoted for Maxxis bravo tyres but then I got told that bighorns are the way to go so it's all just a mix up for me. |

Theres a bit of controversy over whether mud terrain or all terrain tires are better for sand..its up to you but a/t tires are cheaper, quieter, more fuel efficient, a better tire for an everyday vehicle, and IMO the best tire for sand and any other moderate off roading. summary: if its a w/e only 4x4 and your doing rocks, ruts and mud then get the bighorns if its your everyday car get the A/T tires..they are still more than capable offroad and you wont vibrate your car apart on the tarmac |
