Billions of this posts but couldnt get a clear picture of everything. Question. i have a 1990 sj70 sierra, im going to buy a vitara with a g16b engine what extras will i need that a full vitara wont have (im thinking adpator for transfer case? wiring?) i looked at all the 1.3 to 1.6 threads and got some extra just want to get all the extra bits before i take his heart out Much appreciated - Tony |

Are you going to use the vitara gearbox or the sierra gearbox? if you want to use the vitara manual gearbox, you'll need to make a gearbox mount, get the jackshaft shortened, and open up the trans tunnel. If you want to use the vitara 4speed auto gearbox, you need to use one of these kits: http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?pag ... &Itemid=53 If you want to use the 1.3 gearbox, you'll need a 1.6 adapter plate: http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?pag ... &Itemid=53 As for wiring, I don't believe there is an off-the-shelf conversion loom. The best advice I have is that it's not hard, only time consuming. Make sure you have a copy of the right wiring diagram for your donor engine and do it yourself. This is more complex if you plan on using the 4 speed auto as the TCC is well integrated into the stock vitara loom. You could always do what I did and swap the whole vitara loom (and steering column) into the sierra, but I'm not claiming that's not a tonne of work. Obviously you'll need an EFI fuel system, you'll need to hook the VSS into the sierra gauge cluster.. but that's about it. You will probably need extractors. The vitara exhaust manifold is 99% likely to be cracked, and the double engine pipe arrangement is double walled and internally crimped and falls apart. Wildcat extractors will just clear the engine mount with a little grind of the edge of the mount. Obviously, you'll need a custom exhaust. You'll need to modify the accelerator pedal. The G16 uses a different method of attaching the cable to the pedal, so some cutting/welding is required. The G13 cable is too short. Hope this helps. Steve. |

Yeah not sure about the transmission as of yet to see the condition of the donar. yeah my brothers an auto electrician and my mates a disel mechanical so it "should" be smooth sailing lol i just want all the bits to go right the first time. some terms i did understand. The vitara fuel tank won't fit the sierra without modification, and if it's a LWB vitara donor, the tank basically won't fit a SWB sierra at all. You can put the EFI Vitara swimmer fuel pump into a coil sierra fuel tank, modify the tank mounts on the chassis to fit the SWB vitara tank to the sierra, or cut and shut a sierra tank to accept the vitara pump. You could also use a l lift pump/swirl pot/high pressure pump arrangement, but I think these are a terrible (and expensive) solution for a 4WD. The VSS is the vehicle speed sensor. You can unbolt it from the back of the vitara speedo and bolt it in to the sierra speedo, with an additional wire added to suit. Without it, you'll get a check engine light which is annoying, if nothing else. the VSS controls fuelling in closed throttle - if the car is moving the engine is kept fuelled up a bit to provide better drivability when you tip back in to the throttle. If the computer sees engine load for some period but no VSS signal, it all turn the check engine light on. Steve. |

i have a Long ranger fuel tank on my sierra at the moment. will they except the fuel pump? |

No, but it would be possible to weld in the fuel pump flange from the vitara tank, or tap open up and tap the long ranger tank to allow the vitara pump to drop in. You will want to install a swirl pot into the bottom of the tank too. Obvoiusly the normal warnings apply about modifying/welding to a fuel tank. Steve. |

VSS Question. would it be easier to put the Vitara cluster into the sierra dash or keep the sierra cluster? |

hi guys, never done a 1.6 conversion, but appsie put a 1.6 efi in his old rig, he used a VL or VL turbo external pump i think no 100% sure, not to sure but it runs a treat. bolts up on the rail, not sure if there were any tank mods he might be able to help. Steve sounds like he is 110% on the money! again never done one and no claiming i know how to! |

External pumps and all that shit have been known to play up a lot Mod ur lr tank to take the vit pump |
