Post subject:  G16A / G13BA HYBRID CONVERSION into Sierra
Gday everyone i have been interested in doing the G16A / G13BA HYBRID CONVERSION which is a G16A/B block with a G13BA SOHC head and i was just interested in what people opinions are i have also been told that this conversion reduces the compression ratio and would that make it more suitable for a turbo. i no i have to buy the 1600 conversion to bolt it up to the transmission i also have a weber 32/36 carby i was going to install can anyone give the goods and bads of this carby

i had one in my old sierra, was decked and bored out as much as possible. could get some decent speed in it. was good off road.
obviously better the the g13ba. but i would still go for a g16b efi motor.

has anyone run a weber on there car did it make much differnence

Im a bit like you, all the electrics make me shy, carbys are my go.

I have run a 32/36 on a 1.3l went well, now I have a 38/38 on a 1.6l, goes hard.

The 32/36 had stalling issues on big angles, the 38s have a vent that I think will somewhat eliminate this, only gave it its first run yesterday.

I like webers.

Here is some info for you.

The 1300 head does one thing on a 1600 block and that is it bolts on, other than that there are few advantages.

The 1300 head and the 1600 head have almost identical combustion chamber capacity therefore the compression does not change

The 1300 head has smaller valves and smaller ports so it does not flow anywhere near as well as a 1600 head

It is common knowledge that to make power you need to have the head flowing better (so if it flows worse then what does that tell you)

The 1300 manifold and carbie do not flow anywhere near as well as the 1600 manifold and carbie (so again what does that tell you)

Lastly a turbo is best suited to an EFI engine, lots of people with lots of knowledge, money and expertise have played with carbie/turbo combinations and most have been scraped in favour of EFI or just a well thought out naturally aspirated set up

do you think just putting a 272 High Performance Cam and High Compression Flat Top Pistons and extractors and the Weber would be a better option for the G13A has anyone done this and is there any right ups about it

i think the worse thing there is,you have spent alot more money than a more torquey g16a will cost you or even a g16b baleno,vitara engine. im not a fan of more electrical gear but thres plenty of people on here that could help you for in the end a much better engine i reckon

I went from a 1.3 carbyy to a 1.6 carby, the torque diff is amazing, tho also went from a 32/36 to a 38/38.

Stop bugerizing around with the 1.3, they are sweet little motors, but nothing will get them to the power of the 1.6

I am a carby man, and am told, by those whom I trust, doing the G16B is not at all painful or scary, as I believe it would be.

So, if your serious, imo, read up on the G16B conversion, there is lots of info here, lots of people have done it, and are very helpful and forthcoming with "tricks" to speed up issues.

There are "P" platers who cant have a 1600 and others who don't want to do the conversion, for those some performance mods may be the best option. It is not that expensive to get a 1300 performing a bit better.

yes i am still on my p plates what cam and pistons would yous recomend and is there anything else that can be upgraded at this time i just want to stick to the g13a engine parts and upgrades r cheap

Save your money for gearing, and when you are off you P's, throw a G16B in.

The G13 is a waste of time. Leave it stock or throw it out.

You should know this already, no V8, no turbo, no vehicles with engines requiring mod plates, no driving your mates around in middle of the night, zero alcohol and all that stuff.

Fatzook said G16b, but to answer your question, there are engines better than the G16 series but none that are such a straight forward upgrade.

Personally I quite like the G13a engines, when you have one running to its potential they are a sweet little engine, same with the F10a, anyone that has been in Jacobs LJ will know how nice a well put together F10a can go.
