I'm blowing blue smoke while going downhill on gears. It used 500mls of oil in 600k's of hard highway driving.
It's the original motor in a '87 serria, done 300,00k's, but has plenty of power, and dosen't blow somke under power.
Can i just fit a relay somewhere to fix this.

Tar

I think that its sucking oil down the valve stems, need a Re-coed Head but with that sort of K's its best to do the whole motor.

Agree, valve stem seals are worn, minimum reco the head but at 300k it would be wise to do a bottom end rebuild as well while you have it apart
mine did that as well going down hill under compression

Relays will not fix smoke unless its a smoke machine.

Sound like its internal.

If it is not blowing smoke under power and it still has plenty of go at 300,000km it is more than likely that engine has been out before and had a freshen up. I wouldnt even pull the head off, I would just do valve stem seals with the head on and see how you go.
