Try swapping number 4 plug with number 3 for know and go round pump the gas a couple of times and have the air filter off then turn the key a couple of times then swap plugs and try and run it again .just know this may work or may not all this does is back fire through the carbie and blow any crap back out ,ur problem could be complex I'm. Not sure this only fixes it if its a bit blocked up

Blocked Idle jet.
Bush way of fixing is take the hat off your carb, swap number 4 and num 1 plug lead off from the dizzy. Start car and rev too about 2500 and let it die down a bit then rev too 2500 again. It will backfire throught the carb and normally will clean the crap out.

could be really really blocked...
when that sort of thing happens on my carb bike, i usually just strip it down and give it a going over with cleaner etc and rebuild.

my last carb car was like 15 years ago, so i cant be much more help than that.

okay i swapped the leads over made it back fire, and then i cleaned it with carbie cleaner and they both haven't done anything, so i started to fiddle with my idle screw i turned it up so it was at about 3000rpm, and it started and would keep running, but while the car was running i slowly started to turn the the idle screw, and it got to 1500rpm before it stopped working, so it needs to idle above 1500rpm otherwise it is a no go. any ideas with the new info??

NO I'm betting it's crap in the idle jet. That's why it won't idle.

Bruce if he want natzi with carbie cleaner in the bowl and got it back firing ,or blew the jets with compressed kair my old standard carb would do the same thing I would just drive it and land the ass off It and that would work it would just not hold idel.

i had a similar problem so i replaced all the vac lines and tested all the solinoids and stuff for correct operation.i found the line from the rocker cover that goes to the manifold and the air cleaner was blocked at the t piece.so cleaned out and replaced.also found the choke adjustment screw was loose as so relaced with more secure screw.now the car idles at 600rpm and 950rpm with lights on and no stalling or flatspot. o and also sprayed a hole can of carby cleaner down the carby.

it worked for me so may work.
