They often come up on E-bay. Generic issue or non-collectable types usually go for around for $5-10ea, or about $20-ish for 3 or 4.

If that don't work out, go strip out a Hog's Breath restaurant.

NT plate

WA plate

SA plates

QLD plate

NSW plate

NSW Slimline

VIC plate

I'm sure you could find plenty more.

Just be a bit careful as (I'm not sure about other states) in QLD, unless you have a personalised plates it is illegal to keep them once the car is unregistered.

Plates in wreckers are handed into the rta here with rego disposals, then destroyed.

Same here, $100 fine if you keep them for 4 months (I think) after the rego runs out.

However ones from before that rule are fair game.

It's not illegal to possess expired plates, but it is VERY much an offence to display expired plates on either a registered or unregistered vehicle. Some people make a hobby of collecting plates, just like stamps. See the FAQs on the Number Plate Collector's Club site. If possesion was illegal, wouldn't the chain of Hog's Breath restaurants be in the poo?

Every plate shown on that site is personalised or historic.
Wouldn't know about Hog's Breath, never been to one.

I recently sold a 1956 Olympics plate for $700.
Not this one but same series.

last year while my sierra was off the road for repairs i left the rego payment, figuring it would just automatically be deregistered... got a letter in the mail a month later telling me to either pay it or hand in my plates, or risk fines. so yes, it is illegal to retain possession of old plates... but all you have to say is that they were stolen, or "lost", and if theyre only in a room where no one else will see them then you shouldnt have an issue

I don't think
A- The cops will be in my 6yo boys room anytime soon ( well there will be a female cop here Saturday but she dont care)
B- I'll be trying to drive the boys wall anywhere now or in the future.

Thanks & I'll just keep searchin :P

Standard issue plates are illegal to keep because you never own them. They are the property of the state government that issued them.
Personalised plates are bought outright and you can do whatever you like with them.

if you go to DPI (or what ever in ur state) and say the plates have been either stolen or are missing then you can keep it.

i lost a front plate out 4wding, went to dpi, handed in my rear plate. then found my plate in the puddle the next week and it now sitting on my wall :D
