Post subject:  manual box to auto box vitara help?

hey all,
so ive got a 92 swb vitara 1.6l g16a manual
and i think its about time to get a re-con gearbox ,the one ive got makes all the weird noises especially in 5th gear
but i thought mabye putting an auto box into it? just wondering if anyone knows if ill have to change anything other than the box,gear stick and tranny cooler? Cheers :D

pretty sure the auto needs an ECU to control it also...


perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge than me can help...??? atari maybe???

didnt know that thanks so would you know where the peddle box goes ? im asuming underneath the dash on top of the pedal arm or not?
do the vitaras come out with a 4speed auto?
and would anyone know what the auto 3speed is like in low range?

i think you can just remove the clutch peddle and change to a auto brake peddle and the box is above the steering shaft.

The 4 speed is for EFI only as it uses a computer which also sends a signal to the ECU.

I have a low kms 4sp with T-bar, pedal box, TCM and TCM loom section for sale. The convertor comes with it, but You'll need a flex plate.

Isnt the cross members different as well because the auto is longer or somethink

ill keep that in mind just gonna go to the wreckers first and go throught what i have to get and where everything is placed

rear tailshafts are different on the 4 speed auto/manual... not sure about the 3 speed but i'd say they'll be different.

Auto has a bracket for the exhaust to bolt to other than that they are the same, but there is a support that bolts to the cross member and the chassis on the r/h side which the torque stopper Bush bolts to.
