Hey guys, what are some good shocks/struts that go well with a 3.5" lift(2" coil spacers+40mm coils) on a GV? Was having a look at toughdog/ironman/OME etc but they all only give 40mm extra. Looking for something longer than that so they don't top out..

good luck with that setup. You will find with anything longer than 40mm raised struts your CV's will bind up and snap.

Yeah Diff drop brackets are definitely as great idea for any decent lift! Calmini, GIZ and ODA all do em Plus im sure someone on here could hook you up

An option i am using at the moment while a little bit exy, seems to work really well. I have custom koni inserts in the front and koni commodore shocks valved softer in the rear. They both have adjustable rebound and are an oil filled shock.

I havent got to really test out the fronts yet ( only having them in for 2 weeks ) but as far as i can tell they are excellent. If you can hold on for a month i will have given them a good work out and can inform everyone in on my progress. The konis for the rear are getting re valved so will see how they go.

The bad part, fronts cost me $700 and the rears are costing $500. The fronts are roughly 65mm longer than ome ( i think ) and will be using limiting straps if i hit cv issues (more than likely). The rears are standard commodore length and allow great flex and excellent ride and control.

If custom fronts are to expensive, in my mind they are, i would definately go with the dobinson or ome and a strut top flip and with out a doubt run the konis in the back.

the million dollar question is are they $850 better than the off the shelf dobbinson/commy combo.

you say they're good but have you used anything else?

I have driven in a few vits with ome complete kits. Never calamari and mine had ultima front i think and iron man rear. Thing is i havent driven in a sv with the ome etc. The width might affect stability which is what i am looking for. That and the ability to hit small bumps fast and remain in control.

So far my 60mm lift has cost $1400 hahah which is ridiculous, add the diff drops and hydraulic bumps and its up around $2000. However, both ends of shocks are completely adjustable and rebuildable so short of bending a shaft they should last for years.

Springs are springs.

Hydraulic bumps are rebuildable and transfer alot of the harsh bump away from suspension components which will increase wear life.
