I also have the blank, odds are it's the same switch as the doors, I also intend on fitting one someday if I can be bothered.

That is odd. My 2009 model has a rear door switch that works the same as the passenger doors. I thought they all had it.

My Vit has same door switch on all 5 doors, I bet they are same as Jims. It works the normal inside light, tho wish it had a separate more rearward light.

I have just the one light in the front but there does seem to be a place for a rear light but it does not exist in mine.

I have a rear door switch in my 05 VVT Jimny, its just a simple momentary switch, and i only have the forward light attached to the rear view mirror. no others.

Hmm looks like later model Jim's came out with them but not earlier? Would be handy to shed some light in the back, I was going to hook up led on z dash mounted switch but will find a door switch now I think.

i bought some small LED downlights i was going to put in the rear for some light. havent gotten around to installing them tho. but its quite easy to do. hardest part is getting the headliner out as they are glued in on the jimnys(Iv removed mine once before) at least my 05 one was glued in. but fairly simple to remove just pull the upper b and c pillers off and the a pillers, then pull the seals of the doors down a bit, and remove the couple of push pins from the center of the liner, then bend the liner down a little and with a stanly knife cut the glue holding it in. once its out the glue can be scraped or pulled off the roof and liner. and i wouldnt bother glueing it back in as its not really needed. as its held in the center by clips and held around the outside by trim pieces and the door seals.
you might have the wireing already there for the switch if your lucky.
