The starter motor in my '91 G13BA carby leafy Sierra was starting to play up so I ordered a replacement. Gave him the details and it arrived that arvo, sweet. Just pulled mine out and it's different even though the listing for it is correct.

A quick scan of ebay I found the one that is practically the same but it's to suit Vitara.. Lucky I have one here and is only a few month old :)

But was there a change over or something?

Left is Vitara (g16b), Middle Sierra, Right replacement for Sierra.

I have one of the ebay starters motors too. I thought there would be a problem when i compared it to the old one, but so far there have been no problems.
The add pretty much describes it as being a multi fit item.

The replacement I got was from my local auto elecy. I did think about getting a second hander, but really, you don't know when it will die and it's not one of the best jobs to do just to keep replacing them.

The main issue I found was with the mounting holes. The top bolt needs to be a straight through bolt, the bottom one is threaded into the block, the replacement I have are threaded and seem to be in a different location. The other difference is the length of the starter itself.

I've just put in the one out of my Vit and all good :D
