Hi all.

Looks like I have damaged my motor after an overheat. Head gasket (at least) or cracked head. M13a non-vvt.

This has happened before to me and cost $1500+ last time to have a mechanic do it including getting the head shaved. I'm thinking I might consider an engine swap instead and at least get some gains for my money this time.

There is several threads on here regarding the swap and it looks like something my mates and I could handle but the difficult detail is my auto tranny.

Does anyone know of an example where someone has done the engine swap with an auto jimny? I have found a few discussions but noone who closed the deal..

Not a great situation for you :(. Watching this thread :).

My understanding is that the Jimny auto is right at its torque ceiling with an m13. With lots of cooling capacity, a temp gauge, and sensible use (ie not labouring in high range first on steep hills) it might last ok, but I'd be looking for a spare just in case.

Gregc is slowly working towards dropping a g16b in front of his Jimny auto. His auto already gets scary hot so he's doubling his cooling capacity.

Physically/mechanically it should be straightforward.

I'm about to throw an AW4 behind an M13 soon. I'll be sure to post a thread on how much of a pain, or how easy it might be.

My car is off the road now, I dont think i'll have time to see how others go with their swaps. if i'm going to do one it will be within weeks...

So it will be into the dark I venture (if I go there at all)

Are you fitting an M15 instead of fixing the M13 again?

An M15a will be cheaper than another rebuild.

I think if you drive it sensibly you should be fine.

Got a M15a locally from a Holden Cruze, 111000kms for $625 :)

Everyone cross ya fingers the auto bolts up (and holds up)

I will put progress in my build thread here http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=31455&p=660960#p660960
