What is everyone's favourite oils, whether it be tranny, engine, diffs etc. ?

I ask because I'm about to do a full service on my Jimny I just recently brought. Even though the oils all smell and look pretty fresh in it, I'm going to do it anyway because well.. I can haha :)

I've always been a Castrol GTX engine oil man, and whatever I can find laying around for gear box. This is my first 4B though, so figure I better do the diffs for once and better put a pretty decent oil in the tranny considering its an Auto and I want that running 100%...

so what is everyone's fav? :)

Penrite oils are good stuff, bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Castrol. Many grades to choose from, usually good stuff. Repco and Supercheap seem to be having constant sales on oil these days. Maybe they always have and I haven't cared :|

I put little value in the magnatec.

I am starting to think a flush is a good idea once in a while to. When I drained my diesel van recently, it was like tarr, so next change, I am going to drain it, throw in the cheapest oil I could find, add an 'oil flush' additive, run it for 10 minutes and drop it again. I'll clean the old oil filter in kero and use that forthe flush. Then new, high grade oil and new filter of course.

You may not want to do this, but at least a bottle of flushing additive (before you drain it) will make you feel warm and fuzzy about it :)

A wise old bastard once told me that the VVT engines in the Jimny like Castrol Magnatec, in fact that's what they used/recommended at the dealer. Each to their own tho :thefinger:

Old petrol engines penrite HPR 50. excellent stuff.

Diesel engines I use Penrite jap spec oil ( for japanese diesels )

Diffs - castrol gear oil (lsd)
gearbox vmw 80 castrol

But you have a 01 jimny but you didnt tell us the kms, engine condition or your expacations of what you want the oil to do? Are you a tightarse suzuki driver who wants the oil to be incredible and last forever??? And I would go with Scrawns advice about the castrol magantec cause I think the silly old turd that told him is pretty switched on and so is mr Scrawn.

Just like TZAR, I too run Penrite in all my Suzuki engines and Castrol gear oils.

I run the HPR15, but I might try something a little heavier - anyone reckon Penrite HPR30 or HPR50 might quieten down some tappet or piston slap noise in a POS 1.6 Vitara?

I run HiTech. If I wanted to use a really good oil I would get Fusch but for a zook its not really worth the extra $$.

Full Penrite, using premium at the moment and running smoother than ever. HPR is good too.

Use Penrite in Diff's, transfer and Trans, full synthetic, It lasts a lot longer, i dont muck around with the drive line, i noticed using castrol mineral that there was always metal shavings on the diff drain plug, now using Penrite there isnt!

Yep they recomend Castrol Magnatec, but there is no way i would use it! Have had it in the motor a few times but usually only to flush it as Lasts only 4500KM! before its useless. I tried Mobile 1, Valvo there just as bad prob at most get 6500ks out of it, the Castrol Full synth stuff is not to bad but still not as good as the penrite.

Other one is Liqui Moli which is suposidly good.

Jimnys being not that old i would stick with Penrite HPR Full Synth, you prob could use 5-40 or 10-50. you could get around 10,000 -15,000km out of it.

Need more info about your Zook first...

X 2
I highly recommend using a good Engine Flush too !

I have always used Valvoline Engine Armour 15W40 Oil, at $25...

But switched to something better for the GV, Valvoline 10W40 DuraBlend, its formulated for 4WD's/Off Road... costs $45 normally, but Supercheap have it at $7 off, atm...

Not sure whats in the Gearbox, transfer and diffs, as Suzistore supply the oil for them... :D
