Ok so I'm in the process of the head removal of my 1.6. I've removed the whole intake manifold, dropped the extractors off and lifted the tappet cover. What's the next step from here. Do I have to mark anything in relation to the timing before I pull the dizzy out etc etc |

I just yanked the cam out and proceeded to remove the head bolts. You'd probably have to re adjust the timing anyways, but you will see marks of where the bolts were to use as reference. |

With the work you're going to be doing on it, I wouldn't worry about the timimg, just set it up when you put it back together. |

It won't matter, just line it up when you put it together, as you will be removing the cam anyway. |

Ok sweet and do I just pluck the whole dizzy off? Also when removing the timing belt cover does it slip out from behind the pulleys. |

Yep just remove the complete dizzy from the head. Undo the cam pulley bolt but don't remove it, just loosen it, It will help talking the cam out later. Then remove the belt, Save time and just cut it off. Surely you will be replacing it anyways. |

Ok sweet. This is my first real engine mechanical work. So I want to be 100% before I do it. Also I take it the position of the cam is not important as it will only go back in one way?? |

It'll save alot of swearing and having to buy a torque wrench. and yes, While the head bolts arn't torque to yeild, It's a good idea to have them replaced anyways. |

Part of me wants to tilt tray the bucket of shit to a shop and hand over the dosh to come back and drive it home. Also the whole warranty thing. However I've never touched the inside of any engine and seeing as it will be my bush basher id like to know how it all goes back together. I've got a few mechanic mates with torque wrenches. So that will be sweet. Suziauto told me you can reuse head bolts. If there easy and cheap enough to get ill get some! |
