hi fellow zookers. i am only new to owning this little sierra. my brother was nice enough to give me the car as he only used it to get to and from his work site out in the mines. the car has a fair bit of rust on both side panels i am thinking just to bogg it up and leave it out that. or would you suggest cutting it out and putting a whole new piece in. let me know what you would do as i have no previous experience with repairing rust.

Looks pretty typical.

Remove the plastic trim, and the brackets, and see what the sill beneath looks like.

I just cut it out and replace it with some sheet

It is proberbly just the bracket for the plastic trim, cut the bracket off and toss the trim out.

If u find there is not much left there is a lot of options ,but the main thing u do have to do is stop the rust growing.

So u need to cut it out ,I wouldn't bog it but it depends on skills.boging will work but it really needs to be welded up.

thanks fellas for getting back. i think ill take the trim off, and remove the bracket. the bracket is welded on might have to cut it out and replace the whole thing.

drill out the spot welds that hold the rust catcher on with a spot weld drill bit.

thanks atari, yeah i had no idea how to remove spot welds until you just mentioned it and i had a good look on youtube on how to remove pretty informed now. looks like i have a bit of work on my hands for a first timer.
