Hey guys, We have an '05 VVT Jimny with airbags, and it has an ARB steel bullbar (non winch The club we are in doesn't accept the eyelets on the front as an 'adequate' recovery point, and a club member works for ARB also said that with an equalizer strap it 'may' be ok. I personally don't have an issue with them, some people have had problems, some haven't. I began to look under the front for a possible spot to fit a rated tow hook to, and sadly can't really find anywhere that would be easily accessible in a mud stuck situation. What have others done to combat this problem, and if so can you shed some lights with some pics. Cheers, Superduki. |

Age old question dude. no one really has any decent solutions, apart from a few crazy fab jobs. Check out some of the plates made by APIO. but good luck getting one. Personally, i use an equaliser strap with a couple of shackles. I just advise people to go real easy on the snatch as its not a landcruiser etc. Mind you I have a winch, so theres very few times when this has happened. the club doesnt accept?? so what? they kick you out if you dont have one? this is why I hate clubs. You got a zook, you wont get bogged. oh and btw... use the search next time viewtopic.php?f=5&t=35953&hilit=recovery |

Superduki - I have been thinking about the same issue for a while now. I did some calculations on the eys on the ARB bar and if you use a 4,000 to 5,000 kg strap AND an equaliser AND use a shackle with a pin size just a little smaller than the hole then you are probably OK. The issue then is that the bar is attached to the vehicle with 4 x grade 8.8 10mm bolts. (I need to check that actually because they may be 12 mm). If they are 10mm then there is a small chance of ripping the bar off the car. I am planning to change mine to grade 10.9. Either way it is all a little marginal if you gave it a real tug. Towing or light snatching should be OK though. I am still thinking about what other otions there are but must admit it has not been really high on my list of things to do. I have been snatched off the hooks on the ARB bar with no problems but this was a very mild snatch and more like a tow. Yopu can fix the issue of the edge clearance the eys on the ARB bar by welding a haevier piece of plat to them but you are still left with the issue of how the bar attaches to the car. I am thinking that you need a bracket that attaches directly to the chassis like the APIO ones but something that is compatible with the ARB Bar. |

"you have a zook, you won't get bogged". Ah huh, your input / effort has been greatly appreciated. I could pull my pee pee and tell you "i've owned zooks for years, they never get stuck, they go ANYWHERE!", good on ya! It's not the first Suzuki I've owned, probably won't be the last. I've also got a ARB bar on my Sierra, but you don't care about them recovery points, which has been a cut bar with re-inforced eyelets with 10mm steel plate bolted straight into the chassis rails. Obviously the Jimny has a retarded front end design / arb design. I do however hate the fact that ARB have built / designed an expensive bar that doesn't incorporate rated / strong recovery points. Luckily for us the bar was on the car prior to buying, otherwise I may have not purchased this style bar if it was needed. You hate clubs, that's great. Couldn't care less. They won't kick me out, I was a founding member of it years ago and we have a constitution that has ways and means of removing people. Guess you wouldn't know cause you cowboy about and probably don't contribute or care that the affiliated clubs help fight to save tracks and areas. This topic isn't about that, maybe another day over a beer. The club has a safety officer, as most clubs more than likely do. Rated recovery points front and rear are a constitution requirement, and I have no issue with that. Only 12ish months ago we had a 17 year old die when a booty fab towbar exploded on a snatch, went through the rear window of the recovery vehicle and into the back of his head, whilst he was sitting in the back seat. 15+ teenagers are now scarred for life, seeing one of their mates with his brain and mucus splattered everywhere. This was at 2 a.m with no phone reception and 1.5 hours of track to re-negotiate prior to getting to a gravel road, They had to cart his fucked up head all the way out. A 'rated' towpoint mainly comes down to common sense, bolts over welds etc. Equalizer strap and shackles was my immediate thought, as they truley are a shit design in the front. It's only my partners car, so it will only ever be used for light camping, long distance trips that aren't hardcore. My lux diffed Sierra is the heavy towing/recovery vehicle. Cheers Mike57, short and helpful. I will give you some credit scales, I'm sorry I didn't search, I didn't come up with that post that really isn't that helpful, and I'll be sure to not let you know my solution when I nut it out for myself. Superduki. Wow... Just wow, you sir are a douche, I sincerely hope that nobody helps you out with posts like this. Scales gave you two different options and just because he doesn't like clubs you go off on some crazy tangent. Pretty sure the zooks don't get bogged was a bit of sarcasm and a joke but you probably didn't pick that up. Are you trying to say that everyone who owns a 4b and is not in a club are cowboys? Good luck in life buddy, you need it, Scales was wrong though, it's the people in these clubs that make most people not want to be in one with their all high and mighty attitudes towards everything. As confirmed in your post. Rant over. |

Somebody's got their knickers in a twist... Calm down a bit buddy, just cause everyone's opinion of clubs isn't the same as yours doesn't mean there's an all out war against them. You can take what scales has said two ways. Equaliser strap and light snatching will be fine... Yes it is a zook and you'll find it hard to become completely bogged where you need someone to drive flat out to snatch you. I may be wrong, and please don't take this the wrong way as I'm not having a go at you, but wasn't that kid killed by a tow ball? I think I remember reading about it. Which in this case, is a totally different case. Snatching either way should be done with a damping blanket over the strap to lessen the cool effect. They're not just for winching!!! |

I did take it out of context, I'm not very thick skinned. Apologies to Scales. The answer to the boy, no, the actual haymen Reese hitch part of the towbar broke and the whole hitch came away. Those apio mounts look brilliant, however I'm not sure if they can be retro-fitted to our issue. I will look into a way of mounting something similar and cutting a hole in the bar to allow it to sneak out. A bonus of not purchasing the bar is no regrets of cutting into an expensive piece on the jimny!. Cheers, Superduki. |

Jesus christ dude. settle the fuck down aye. I gave you a few options, and you unleash at me and insinuate I'm a drug addicted smack freak..... nice work, top way to get respect. I could have just chucked a link to the search up there and said "figure it out for y'self" and there is MORE than one thread on this topic. I just threw the 1st one I found up, so if its not helpful, sorry. I wont bother helping out next time. the wont get bogged comment was completley tongue in cheek champ, you need to reign in the seriousness in a bit. If thats all it takes for you to get riled up on the forum..... then your going to have fun on this site, my comments are tame compared to the other troll's bigmav wrote: Scales was wrong though, it's the people in these clubs that make most people not want to be in one with their all high and mighty attitudes towards everything. Good luck with it, couldn't care less if you don't post the results for my sake, cowboys like me don't need recovery points EDIT: Had a brief moment of lucidity between my drug trips and spent the 20 seconds to do a search for you and narrow it down a bit more for you.
