Post subject:  Which centre's to use?

hi AZ,

I'm about to do a w/t conversion in my 85' n/t LWB. I've got some donor w/t diff's which are 3.7 but I've been told the centre's in my n/t housings are 3.9? Which centres would be better to use?

I have the new style rd208 locker to put in the front and have heard of people having a few issues installing these with the 3.9's...something about machining the carrier to fit? Can anyone shed some light on this? :?

I'll be running 6.5 transfer gears and 33's so just wondering what the difference would be between the two ratio's at highway speeds?

any help/advice would be much appreciated. thanks :D
Lach.

I haven't encountered any fitting issues.
AFAIK NT and WT diff bits are dimensionally identical.
NT 3.9 is 5% lower than WT 3.7.

33" tyre is 27% larger than stock.
6.5 gears give 20% reduction in high.
NT centres give another 5% so you're still 2% taller geared than stock.

And if your transfer case is a NT one the NT diff centres would be better as they have the right flanges.

I ran 3.9s and 6.5s on 31s, I was sooooo happy. I had spartan lockers f/r. they fit straight in no issues.
