Hey guys hoping someone can give me a few starters to look at, i was out bush and thought I swollowed some water so took her home and cleaned her out and went over all the eletrics with crc marine water proofer and penetrator, after that was working fine, took her out again today and started running rough befor I even got into the wet muddy section talking to a mate said just drive her a bit more and might dry out which It did but fell into another hole then about an hour later she stalled so I started her again then it reved to just befor limiter and died and wouldn't start again.... The cam shaft angle sensor plug has a dodgy wire ( had been soldered up so thinking might be an old problem) now I have now spark and no fuel getting to the injectors, I have a brand new fuel pump sitting in the glove box which I would change out if i new it was the problem but no spark as well, googled it and apparently the cam angle sensors are a problem would this make no spark and no fuel? Only just brought this car and have taken it out 3 times, kinda just tempted to wake a 1.8 in her and start from scratch as the wiring is a bit wild in her

Sorry few rums in me , I have no spark and no fuel, so te sensor affects both spark and fuel, one of the plug leads is dodgy so I am going to buy new leads and plugs tomorrow so might as well spend the extra $120 on the sensor as well?

You'll need to do the sensor eventually so even if that's not the problem it's worth replacing. Did the ECU get wet?

do jimnys prime the pump when you first turn the key on? if its doesn't do that first run it might just be an ECU or ignition fuse

I had a look at all the fuses I could find... (There scattered everywhere) the ignition one looked corroded ( bit of green fur) anyone done a m15 swap? Might scrounge around the wreckers just got $1000 flood relief payment lol

so by swallowed water you mean filled up inside? have a look inside the ecu, sounds buggered
FWIW to fit an M15, you need all the jimny electrics to already work so youll need to fix it anyway

I'm in the process of converting to a m15. It's not as easy as the thread write up makes it out to be. I had to pull the whole motor and gearbox out to get the top gearbox bolts out and even then with the motor out I had to used the breaker bar with a pole extension. But as Royce said get the problems fixed first, get the car running right and then look at doing the conversion.

hi, no where had the sensor in stock but ordered it from repco ($90) and will pick it up tomrow morning, while i was there brought everything for a full service so i know where she is up to, brought new bosch platinum spark plugs apparently they make the engine run smoother and give better fuel economy.... anyone else use these? they were only a few bucks dearer and i had a gift card so thought why not, new leads as on closer inspection the 1st lead was stuffed!!!! so thats what was making her fart and carry on not water as i thought.....(hopfully)
new 5w magnatec oil under recomendation apparently 10w is too thick for proper valve workings or something, new oil filter, they didnt have a fuel filter for it in there books so just got sold a universal filter but looked under the bonnet couldnt see one theres a big black filter under there near the battery which i have no idea what it is any one have an idea??? and im guessing the fuel filter is probably down near the fuel tank probably under my bash plate!!! can anyone comferm this befor i pull the bash plate off?
took the sensor off in prep for tomrow found out the plug wires were dodgy!!!
the wire wasnt broken when i saw it, but as soon as i touched it, it just fell apart! i pulled the clip thing out of the plug and got a new wire soldered on to it and a wire joiner on the other side which i cut back about 2 inches to where the wire felt all right, hooked it all up and still no spark,
this is the sensor just to make sure i am pulling the right one out!!
pulled the leads and plugs out, oil was all over them!!!!!! so i pulled the tappet cover off to see what the go was, the o-rings around the plugs were hard and the bolts holding the tappet cover were only finger tight! so got new o-rings and put gasket goop over the gasket which was still good and tightened it up propper.
now just waiting on the new sensor and hopfully she will start

Does the early Jimny have a factory immobiliser? If so it could just be a faulty sensor key. royce wrote: do jimnys prime the pump when you first turn the key on? if its doesn't do that first run it might just be an ECU or ignition fuse I've never noticed audible priming on either of mine. It is inside the tank but I'd still expect to be able to here it.

I wouldn't know about the imoberlizer... Only car that I've had with one is a little exel, had to press a button on the keyring befor I could start it, and there's nothing like that on the jimny just turn the key and go

Factory key apparently just has a chip hidden in the key, no button pushing necessary. Come to think of itI think it's only late model Jimnys

Ok changed the sensor still no start, grabbed the end of the spark plug, no spark, cracked the end of the fuel rail, little dribbles, tried cranking it with cracked open slow dribble.... Shut it cranked engine cracked fuel rail again only a little dribble..... No idea what is going on, is there a crank shaft sensor ( the one on the front if the engine) the engine is a g13bb, I have a mate coming around with a diagnostic tool in a few hours hopfully

pull the rail bung out and jsut turn the key on, fuel should pour out then stop, if not the ECU has no power
get in there with a multimeter, black with blue trace should have 12v with key on, straight white should be 12v, black with white trace 12v with key on
if black/white and white have power but not black/blue, the ignition relay is not working

Sorry missed this thread for a while. Im kinda a fuel pressure expert after all the grief i had with my pump/system
Easiest way to see if you have fuel pressure is to remove your return fuel line. IE, after the fuel rail, and after the pressure regulator. Have a BUCKET READY!
The pump does prime on ignition "on" so if you have a buddy sit in the cab and goto ON, you should have an amount of return fuel pushing past the regulator and back to the tank (bucket in this case)
My problem was the O-Ring in the pump assy was rooted so there was a SMALL amount of fuel getting to the rail, but not enough pressure. Dont take the regulator off the rail and assume pressure is okay just because fuel comes out of the rail... Thats what I did, and I assumed WRONG.
Check your wire repair work with a multimeter.
Also,. I would assume your ECU would still trigger a fire on the leads even without the sensor input IE Limp home mode... Check your coils and leads with a multimeter too.

Would the fuel pressure trigger no spark tho? I have never worked on a efi car befor and it is all a bit much but I'm trying to get my head around it, last car was a 71 fj40 which was piss easy,

just edited my post to include coils etc. Check coils 1st cos easy to get to, then check the trigger lines from the ECU harness. one may have a break. It should just goto LIMP home mode where it will still fire.
Is this a g13 btw?

Before you go any further do as Royce suggested. This will establish if you have an issue at the ECU or if you are chasing multiple problems elsewhere royce wrote: pull the rail bung out and jsut turn the key on, fuel should pour out then stop, if not the ECU has no power

Minimum requirement is a crank/cam angle sensor input. Without that the comp can't do squat.

I have the g13bb engine, does this have a both cam and crank sensors? Because I'm guessing that the crank would be another good one to replace and if it isn't it still be good to have in the glove box because It died in the middle of yuagi national park!!!!

I'm fairly certain the g13bb just has the cam sensor. What other dodgy wiring do you have on the vehicle that you are aware of? That plug is a mess!

Duel battery setup that doesn't work and there are 4ish power cables going to places all around the engine bay, messy fuse box, everything is connected to something and nothing like that plug!!! Guess ill get the multimeter out and start checking and check the fuel thing, still not sure where the fuel filter is.... Hopin it hasn't been bypass and have dirty fuel in it....

the fuel pump buzzes till it builds up pressure

no it doesnt. Its on a timer. Mine ran and shut-off without sufficient pressure. There is no pressure sensor feedback to the ECU or anywhere else. Its a mechanical pressure reg.
