Post subject:  Car not starting???

Hey fellas,

Well I went to start my car tonight and it wouldn't start, was like the batteries dead or something. When I turned the key I just heard this click noise. Got my mate over and we hooked em up and got it going, then ran her for about 15 mins. Come home turn the car off then it does the same thing again when I try to turn it back on :/

Any ideas? Last time I drove it was yesterday arvo. Oh and battery was replaced when I rebuilt the engine so 3000kms old :/ Tossing up between dead battery or dead alternator?

Cheers,

Gideon

Ok so I got it going and ran the multi on the battery and was coming back 14v and while turned off it was 12v which is correct? Not sure where to test the alt :/ can only see 1 black wire running off it.

Anyway got it started and ran it for 5 mins turned it off waited a couple mins then she started up again fine :/ Seems to be fine now.

the regulator on the ALT may be playing up. This exact same thing happened to rushos' Prado at fraser. Came good after a few hours of driving.

I replaced the starter motor about 5-6 months ago, so it shouldn't be that. I hooked up the jumper leads and started her up. Whatever was/is wrong with it, when I went to start it the dash lights would flicker and go really dim etc.

Two things can happen, water/acid inside bat evaped so it cant provide enough cranking amps and takes a while to build up charge, has happened to me on maint free bats.

Or faulty battery.

I had a brand new Battery in the GV while it was sitting in the driveway for a week not being used it went flat, it would charge but not enough to start the car or just enough to make a click or half a turn of the motor. WAS replaced under warranty.

Is it a maint fee bat with a Condition indicator on it?

Also bat terms / Lead connections could need a good clean with a wire brush.

Mine was hard to start for a few days a while back , these take a bit to turn over so if the battery is slightly weak it won't do it.
I checked the level's in the battery and they were down, topped them up with distilled water and never had the problem again.

Have a look at this.

came to mind when saw a product in Supercheap (battery Conditoner) pretty much acid that dissolves calcium etc build up on the bat plates.

Having seen a lot of people try Inox on solar batteries the one thing I can tell you about it is it don't do what it says and you still have to get a new one
