| Post subject: | Hubs not locking - axle shaft not centred |
Hi guys, Stripped my hubs as they were not locking. i've cleaned them all up but they still wont lock. Looking at the axle shaft, it looks as though its not centre and thats why the hub wont lock is this even possible? from what i can see the hub body bolts on with cone washers and therefore should be centred no amount of force on the clutch will allow it to lock |

I think its time to check your stub axle. I've never seen that before, and can't think how it would happen..... You up to the task of rebuilding your hubs? Going on these pics, they are certainly due for a freshen up! |

its joined to teh CV, which is designed to flop around of course it can move but those hubs are a mess, strip them and fix them before bothering to make it all work |

There is a bush that the stub axle gors through, never seen one wear, but easy to check on. I've always replaced crappy hubs with new or better, easier than cleaning up real stuffed ones. If they are that rusty, maybe the seals/gaskets are past their best. I use gasket maker/goo stuff |

royce wrote: but those hubs are a mess That's a bit of an understatement! It's appalling maintenance! Looking by the amount of junk in them I wonder how bad the brass bushing is that supports the shaft as well as the condition of the CV. Hope you are going to replace the wheelbearings and check out the kingpin bearings before you slop this all back together. Better then having everything collapse/seize while you are on the road.............. |
