The B & BA don't have a lot of meaning - SOHC or DOHC is a more appropriate question - most people assume B is the DOHC and BA is SOHC but that is not necessarily correct. The reason why I say this is I have two engines here, both are G13B, and one is a 16v DOHC from a 91 GTi and the other an 8v SOHC in a 93 Swift - the blocks are the same with minor variations depending on the year, but the crank, rods & pistons are different, and the timing belt on the DOHC engine is longer - much longer since it has to go around two cam sprockets |

I changed all the aux of my old g13ba sohc engine because it was all rib belts etc ... After all the reading iv done the stamp on the block means nothing is the same :/ |

A G13 block will have a raised casting at the flywheel end saying G13A, 1324cc or G13B, 1298cc - the confusion over B, BA & BB comes from the engine number prefix - most of the 16v SOHC engines would have had a G13BB prefix, but, as I said, those designations aren't necessarily correct - I've even seen a G13K (16v DOHC) And as for nothing being the same - I beg to differ - you can read all you want, but I can tell you what's been done with my engine(s) - the blocks & cranks can be interchanged - the 16v DOHC crank is a forged steel unit with solid crank pins, the 8V SOHC is cast and has hollow crank pins - you can fit 8v rods & pistons to either block & crank and use it with an 8v head, or fit 16v rods & pistons and use it with a 16v head. |

Problem solved the the tensioner bearing was different size |

All G13A blocks, whether from a Sierra or Swift/Barina are 1324cc. All G13B (and BA + BB) are 1298cc with a shorter stroke. You can fit the G13BA 8v head to a G13b GTi block (and vice versa) by using the timing belt and tensioner from the head you're using and the pistons to match to valve arrangement. |
