Hay guys, now on the back of my lwb vitara there are 2 lights in the back bumper that are only fog lights that are on a switch in the dash, now to me there pretty useless as I'm not going to ever use them so was thinking that I might be able to make them into stop/ tail lights, now I've followed the wires from the foggies and thay go up behind the standard tail/ stop lights so all I'd have to do is cut the fog light wires and tap into the original wires? But I'm wondering if there would be anything else that would need doing? I no I'd need to fit a duel element globe to we're the fog lights are but how would I change the socket?

So has anyone else done this to there vitara? If so how did you go about it?

Seems like an easy way to make it a bit safer for followers to see you as it would be turning 2 stop/ tail lights in to 4


In case you don't understand what lights I'm talking about hear is a pic, the lights in the bottom bumper are just fog lights and the lights up higher are the stop/tail, blinker etc

I've done the reverse on a 98 GV - the 98GV has the stop, tail & indicators in the bumper. and on the body, the reverse lamps and a single rear fog on the right side. US models & later Caribbean models don't have the bumper lights at all, so after an accident that took out the right side body light, I replaced both sides with the later style light and wired everything up - I used sockets from some unknown Toyota, just found what I needed at a junk yard.

Yep - Done exactly this on my restoration - including a high mount stoplight (custom LED fab) - I had the advantage of all the wiring looms being out so was able to make a ll the mods to it before it webt back in the car - as far as tail / stop, I didn;t bother with the tail light, just made them stop lights. I'll do a pic today and post it. Ít's very easy to do and worth while.

Thanks for the help guys, yer it doesn't seem very hard to do only thing was changing the socket to one for a duel element globe whitch ill have to have a look at and figure something out.

Hay Scott - What size are your wheels and tyres

the only issue i could maybe see is that you might have slightly dim brake lights as you will be taking power from the originals
make sure you put a good earth, most wiring faults are due to poor earth.


if you do get slightly dim brake lights then you could alway replace them with LED's that wil solve that issure

There's ample power to drive additional stop lights.

Rims are 15x7 -13mm offset and tyres are 235/75r15

Thanks for the tip man, ill be sure to check and make sure there still as bright after, LEDs are a good idea tho.
